Guest guest
It is so good to hear this stuff because it is an encouragement to hang in there lol! Sometimes you wonder if things will ever change. We still have real issues with brushing the teeth and combing the hair...forget the dentist it is still a nightmare. On a positive note the haircutting thing is getting easier. He still is kind of a moving target but sits in the seat by himself and for the most part is compliant so that is HUGE~~~I look forward to the day when Micah will go to the ENT and denist compliantly. I kinow it will happen eventually but I am not gertting any younger here lol!!  Great news about Nic...it is a great thing to hear.  Loree cathcing up It's been a while since I had anything " exciting " to report but I just wanted to tell all the " younger " parents or should I say parents of younger children with DS, that it really does get easier. Nic was very difficult to handle in his earlier years. He has ADHD among other things and it was so frustrating sometimes. We chose to not go to certain places just because we knew how much work it would be to keep Nic under control and then we couldn't enjoy things as a family because one of us would have to be on top of him. March 1 Nic will be 13. He began puberty over the summer and he has just been so much more compliant!! He grew 3 inches since August!! He is now 4'5 " . Clothes are easier to buy for him as well. He no longer screams like he's being murdered during haircuts and dentist visits. He comes to brush his teeth without being literally dragged into the bathroom. He bathes by himself (except for hairwashing) He runs his own bath then cleans EVERYTHING up including wiping up the splashed water, hanging up towels and putting all dirty laundry in the basket. Something I might add his older brother doesn't do as well (age 27!) He eats all of his dinner and BEST OF ALL............wait for it.................................... he has been sleeping in his own bed, all night long, for the past 2 months. For 12 1/2 years he has slept with either Bob or I or sometimes all 3 crammed in one bed. I never thought the day...or night...would come. He was very adamant about not sleeping alone for so long. He is now getting a small mustache (and developing a uni-brow). So things are definitely better. Guest guest
Diane, this is great news, and thanks for sharing with us!  Then I have hope, these days will come - no crying about a haircut, or the dentist!!!  Olivia sleeps in her sisters' room, or in her room, with me.  Do you still work in the school - I am thinking you became an aide - is that right?  Hope to see you this summer!  Patty From: Diane Ferko <munchkin625@...> Subject: cathcing up " Upsndowns " < > Date: Sunday, February 21, 2010, 8:01 PM It's been a while since I had anything " exciting " to report but I just wanted to tell all the " younger " parents or should I say parents of younger children with DS, that it really does get easier.
