Guest guest
How much salt was in the tomatoes? Guest guest
I know that using a can versus fresh tomatoes does contain sodium, but this was quick and if I would have used fresh would probably have had to add some sea salt. My grocery had a BOGO sale on Hunt's Diced 14.5oz. Sodium content 280mg. V8 juice without salt isn't very tasty, so what do you suggest? > > > ** > > > > > > This morning, poured a can of diced tomatoes and two celery stalks into the > > vitamix plus 2 capfuls of lime juice. Guest guest
Just a guess but think the cap for the 64 oz container might be between a quarter and a half cup. Guest guest
I know it's weird but over time I now like the low sodium V8 better than the regular. We don't keep a salt shaker around and are used to a much lower sodium content than the average person but the key was time. We let our taste buds adjust to less salt and now they don't like " normal " sodium levels of foods we get outside of our home. I think if you want to move towards lower sodium on this beverage I would start with low sodium v8 or tomatoes and add just enough salt to be tolerable to you then over time add less and less. Guest guest
For those needing to watch their sodium, simply switch from regular table salt to a genuine SEA SALT. Sodium is only a problem if it is the chemical processed stuff most people use. Real sea salt is full of minerals, and you need far less of it than you do table salt. Don't by the stuff at the regular grocery store marked as " REAL " sea salt, but find a good natural source. I prefer wet sea salt, which is messier to use, but I dehydrate it myself then buzz it up in the Vitamix, so it shakes out just like regular salt does. Real sea salt should be dark gray or very pink-not bleached white like table salt. > >> > >>> ** > >>> > >>> > >>> This morning, poured a can of diced tomatoes and two celery stalks into the > >>> vitamix plus 2 capfuls of lime juice. Guest guest
I'm curious, by capful, do you mean the entire black lid? My VM 5000 cap will only hold a couple of ice cubes. Guest guest
Let me know what you think and lemon juice would probably work well, too. Lime juice was just closer to the front of the fridge. > > > > > > > > > > > This morning, poured a can of diced tomatoes and two celery stalks into the vitamix plus 2 capfuls of lime juice. Guest guest
I love the taste of lime juice in drinks and would grab it first too. Guest guest
I have to agree with you 100% about taste buds adjusting. First time I made a smoothie and a whole frozen banana was too strong, had to cut back to half, same thing with ginger. Now I can practically throw in the kitchen sink, but other people don't feel the same way. Years ago, when I was a child and my Grandmother had to cut back on her sodium intake, my mother decided that we didn't need that much either so she started seasoning most foods with just garlic or onion powder so to this day, I don't salt too many things on purpose, except soup. I know I probably should be more salt conscious, but since I don't usually try to salt things, I don't go out of my way to find the no/low salt cans either. Everyone situation is different and unique on here, but that is what I like most, learning tips from everyone from their own experiences. > >> > >>> ** > >>> > >>> > >>> This morning, poured a can of diced tomatoes and two celery stalks into the > >>> vitamix plus 2 capfuls of lime juice. Guest guest
Good point, . I like the Himalayan pink salt. Also, I've found that citrus - either lemon or lime - works really well if you're cutting back on salt. I usually can't manage to have lemons or limes when I need them, so I've found TrueLemon http://www.truelemonstore.com/ to be a blessing! I start every morning with a tall glass of water with one envelope of the true lemon mixed in. It isn't sweet, and it's just tart enough. I use both the lemon and lime in cooking as well.em / TN>> > For those needing to watch their sodium, simply switch from regular table salt to a genuine SEA SALT. Guest guest
Before I married my husband (35 plus) years ago I had grown up salting everything. When we married and set up housekeeping I automatically filled the salt shaker and set it on the table beside the pepper grinder. The first time I picked up the salt shaker and began shaking it on out of habit my husband asked why I was salting the food before tasting it. I thought about it and really did not know. So that day o stopped. For a time I still added to taste for things like potatoes but by now I use one of the standard round boxes of salt in about 3 to 4 years. The funny thing is he did not learn his good habit at home as to this day his sister and father salt everything at the table.
