Guest guest
Pesticides in any amount are a problem, which is what originally led us to growing organically. We use hydroponic methods (and are moving toward aquaponics) but find the flavors are excellent if micro nutrients are used, in addition to normal organic blends. As for his thoughts on buying local, I completely agree. More and more growers are using hoop houses and full greenhouses to give more availability year round. Our problems in central Florida are truly heat and humidity. But those factors can be dealt with in a reasonable manner without chemicals. I would recommend that each family find local growers that they can trust. You can find local sources at LocalHarvest.org --just put in your zipcode.-- Diane KHeart of Christmas Farmshttp://hocfarms.comon facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Heart-Of-Christmas-Farms/62673422893 on localharvest: http://www.localharvest.org/heart-of-christmas-farms-llc-M19402 On Sun, Aug 21, 2011 at 3:06 PM, flnancy1958 <pravern@...> wrote: http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/listings/110820/ I know this is a bit OT, but thought it was sadly interesting about what is going on with FL tomatoes.
