Guest guest
NDSC Action Alert - Call-In Day Di NDSC Action Alert Take Action! Participate in National Call in Day for Long Term Services and Supports Background The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act would create a national, voluntary disability insurance program under which all employees (full or part-time) would be eligible for long-term services. This bill would help address the need for long-term support services for adults with disabilities that will enable them to live in their communities, hold jobs, participate in community and recreational activities and enjoy the same opportunities as non-disabled citizens. The U.S. Senate is now debating its health care reform bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This bill now contains the CLASS Act. However, it has just been revealed that there will be an amendment to eliminate the CLASS Act from the bill. Apparently, one of the biggest obstacles for the CLASS Act is misperception among Members of Congress and their staff that people with disabilities cannot work and belong in the needs-based Medicaid program. While Medicaid is an essential safety net, most individuals with disabilities want to work and want to take personal responsibility for their long term care needs. Take Action Call this toll-free number (800) 958-5374, tomorrow, December 3rd and ask for your Senators office with the following message: Hello. I am calling to ask Senator ___________________ to make sure the CLASS Act remains in the final health reform bill and to oppose any amendment to strip it from the bill. The CLASS Act will help people to remain independent. Please call both of your Senators. Your participation in this process is critical in helping individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities live productive, independent lives!
