Guest guest
Maverick always got graded on his IEP goals that are being met within an assignment. If the rest of the class had to do a report on a president, he would make a poster on this president and then have to have certain information included in that poster, the same information that they other students were required to have. I modified most of Mav's work as it came home when he got in Jr. High and HS. Most of the teachers there have no idea how to prepare work for a student in elementary level academics so it took a lot of pressure off all of us. Mav usually made the honor roll and he progressed well on his IEP goals and had fun! He loves school and is included and learning.. so .. that's an A+ in my book! Guest guest
We went through the grading issue a few years ago. Somewhere I found the reference that states " students should be graded on the district scale on the work assigned to the individual student " . The district scale is 93-100 - A, 86-92 - B, 80-85 - C and so on. The reference was in special education publication, in reference to just this situation. I will try and find the reference, did some major cleaning out a month ago, so I hope I still have it. Also, I also took the issue of honor roll to our curriculum specialist. None of the kids in special ed were being placed on the honor roll, and one quarter had all A's and one B. I asked the teacher, and she drew a blank. Went to the curriculum specialist, asked her about it, and she said, " of course they should be on the honor roll, they are being graded on the work assigned, just as the regular ed students. " When I asked why it hadn't happened before, she looked sheepish, and said " I guess no one asked about it before " . Sharon H. " grading Hi All, Just taked to the RSP... we're working on the aides arrival time, as the school changed the schedule this year and they've got to figure out how to meet the contract hours, etc. I know, not my problem and they need to work it out, but I'm going to give a few more days for a resolution to this. Basically (and we've been through this before) they hire aides on a x hour contract, but now that the school has decided to do an early release day, the other 4 days are longer, it doesn't work out right. I will give the RSP the opportunity to fix this, but I'm pretty sure that I'll be heading to the principal to get it resolved. The general ed teachers have asked about how to grade , and I've recalled some discussions in the past, so hopefully you'll refresh my memory. I believe the should be graded on the modified work she does... if she completes it all correctly, she should get an A, right? They don't just have her do the modified work and then grade her along with the standards of the class???? If someone has a nice summary of grading, or could point me to the a reference (or just give personal experience, that works too!), I'd love to send an email to the general ed teachers and get them stared on the right foot... they both seem very accomodating, and want to do what is right, they've just not done this before. Thanks in advance. , mom to (13), (11 DS), and Sammy (9)
