Guest guest
is allergic to Sulfa drugs, he got hives all over and dehydrated to the point it was almost affecting kidney function. Question Regarding Sulfa Drugs Hi - I'm - occasional poster, frequent lurker.... I have a question for everyone. I think I remember reading here about our kids having a bad reaction to sulfa drugs (antibiotics). Jimmy was prescribed Bactrim, and after about 5 days he has developed a raging fever, rash, and extreme stomach pain. We (the docs) have been testing everything trying to figure out what's wrong with him, to no avail. Do I remember correctly that some of the kids on this list had a bad reaction to sulfa drugs? If so, what was the nature of the reaction? Thanks so much for your help. My poor baby is miserable - just trying to get to the bottom of it! Guest guest
I've never heard of kids with ds having trouble with it. My son with ds (however) developed a rash when he was taking an antibiotic and they told me that it was likely an allergic reaction to sulfa. So we avoid it. I had never heard that it might be a " DS " thing. Shirley, mom to Josiah, 20yo Question Regarding Sulfa Drugs Hi - I'm - occasional poster, frequent lurker.... I have a question for everyone. Guest guest
had a reaction to Sulfa when she was just over a year old. Broke out in huge, ringed hives all over her body. Doctor said it was a reaction to sulfa, he also told me that people with DS have a higher rate of reaction to sulfa than kids without DS, and he showed me an article about it. Now that was almost 17 years ago, don't know where that article is now. Sharon H. Guest guest
Liam can take them, but we've only used it when the doc has cultured the infection and it's something nothin else will fix.? Mostly we alternate between amoxicillin, augmentin (which he's on now-- sinus infection caused his eyes to swell up) and zithromax (when it's only throat) Kathy, Liam's mom (11,ds,diabetes & asthma) Question Regarding Sulfa Drugs Hi - I'm - occasional poster, frequent lurker.... Guest guest
Hi, I have a hard time with Sulfa drugs and has never had any problems. I know several people who have similar troubles, some more extreme and some not too bad that they stop taking the antibiotic. I will never forget the first (and only) time I took Bactrim...bad, bad, bad...but that was just me :0) Moyers Kay Independent Beauty Consultant 832-816-7992 www.marykay.com/jendmoyers ________________________________ From: cshos <cshos@...> Sent: Thursday, August 13, 2009 9:12:27 PM Subject: Re: Question Regarding Sulfa Drugs I've never heard of kids with ds having trouble with it.
