I agree, Ana. As a Christian, I find it a tad too judgemental, for one

thing.

I'm guessing the " YAWN " you put in your email directed to me wasn't good

enough for the rest of the group?

If you are offended or bored, then that would be your problem.  If you did not

wish to watch the video, you simply could have ignored it.  I have my beliefs

and you have yours.  I don't believe expressing your beliefs is ever

inappropriate, regardless of whether I agree with you or not.

God blessed me with a my daughter, who happens to have Down syndrome.  It is

ABSOLUTELY appropriate for me to express my feelings on where my child came

from.

I posted a video...I did not ask for a debate.  If you would like to debate your

issues with me, may I suggest you take it off of this board and direct to me

personally?  Otherwise, if I helped just one person to feel better, then I have

done my job.

I will say a prayer for you.

was the video about the love for your daughter or down syndrome?

i don't think so.

no, it was a preachy guilt ridden shamefest aimed at making other

people feel their religion is wrong

and making you feel like patting yourself on the back for being such a

stand up " christian " .

if you post a video to a public list then you can deal with the

I did not post a " preachy guilt ridden shamefest aimed at making other

people feel their religion is wrong

and making you feel like patting yourself on the back for being such a

stand up " christian

That is your opinion, but that is NOT what I posted.  If watching that video

made you feel as if your religion is wrong, then that is something you can deal

with, not blame on me.  I was moved when I saw that video and I made the

decision to post it...any consequences stemming from that decision I will gladly

take because I am not ashamed nor do I feel I was wrong in posting what I

believe in.

Had I written, " you should watch this video, especially if you are not a

Christian because... or any other religion besides Christianity is wrong " , then

perhaps your argument (to me) would be justified.  I've been on this board long

enough that those who read my posts KNOW my beliefs and KNOW how I feel about

where came from.  I didn't feel it necessary to post that along with the

video.

As far as a pat on the back...I don't know where you came up with that.  I don't

need a pat on the back for anything that I do.  I do what I feel is right in my

heart, and if that hurts your feelings or puts you on the defensive to strike

out at me, bring it.  Debating a religious issue is not appropriate for this

board.  However, had you or anyone else chose to post a video about something

close to your heart, something that I did not agree with, I certainly wouldn't

have come back at you with such judgement.  You've no idea where people are in

their lives and neither do I, but I believe in speaking my mind and making

choices in hopes that it could help someone else...period.  No recognition nor

" pats on the back " required.

I'm actually quite shocked by your responses, especially in the manner in which

you have attacked me.  However, the life you live is yours and yours alone.  I

respect that you (perhaps) do not share the same beliefs as me...and I certainly

wouldn't attack you for it.  But I will pray for you, because that is all I can

do.

Honestly folks!? This list was created so that families and friends of children

with Down Syndrome could share.?

One thing I have always disliked about the internet is people seem to think that

it is perfectly acceptable to bash people because they post something that

someone else doesn't agree with -- if you didn't like all you had to do was hit

the delete key!? The constant bickering is annoying.

Ana, Granny -- did what she felt led to do after watching that video.?

Perhaps she could have post a caveat that it was Christian related so that those

that want to avoid 'religious' or Christian stuff could have avoided it.? She

didn't so the better part of valor was to hit delete and not make another

comment.? (or Tim)? could have then privately emailed and

requested she not post similar items again (or only post with a caveat).?

JMHO,

Cari

Do you know me personally?  I don't believe you do, and if you did, then you

would know that what you said is completely untrue.  I am who I say I am, plain

and simple.  I will not apologize for who I am or for what I believe.

Cari,

I agree! I haven't been on this group for very long, but I am surprised at all

the controversy & bickering that goes on here. We are all adults, people!! I

don't know about anyone else here, but I know I tell my 5 year old & my almost 8

year old with DS to practice IGNORING people who say things that might bother

them. If you can't agree to disagree, then keep your mouth shut or take it off

this list because I'm sick of getting all the fighting back & forth emails, as

I'm sure other people are as well. Life is too short & we are here to uplift

one another & support one another, regardless of each others beliefs. A little

respect is in order prior to posting things that others might find offensive

(like a warning in the subject line so that they can delete it without reading

it) & a little respect is in order not to attack someone in front of the entire

group for posting something that you may not like. Try sending them a private

email to discuss your issues with the posting.

Thats just how I feel about this matter!

Guys... ENOUGH of this bickering! I have heard more on this list from ADULTS

than I have all week from the 8 kids living in my house!!!

There are very simple rules posted to everyone upon joining this list. You are

to read them and follow them.

This is SO disrespectful to the rest of us who are really trying to BE there and

support each other.

If you don't have anything nice to say.. don't say anything at all.

This is a list for families who have been touched by down syndrome, while we do

and are free to discuss other family/life issues there are some " hot " topics

that are not to be touched on this list... religion and politics being high on

the list.

Now.. I think everyone needs to take the night off and pray or mediate or dance

or whatever is in your life.. and come back tomorrow with a happy face!!

I have been a part of this group for only a few months.  I have had members of

this group help me tremendously and I have done my share in being there for

others.  I have not been disrespectful in any of my posts.  I find it very

disinheriting that one poster has been disrespectful not only to me, but to

other posters as well...posters who also try to be there for everyone else.

I have made my intentions for posting the video very, very clear.  I am not a

pot stirrer nor do I enjoy reading the posts ridiculing me.  I think that

Ana took my post and used it for her own agenda.  I think she has shown complete

and utter disrespect for me, my child and for others on this board, all in the

name of Christianity.

I am an adult.  I am a single mom of three kids.  I know right from wrong and I

know who I am. Part of my experience being touched by Down syndrome is my

religious beliefs.  If I am not allowed to express my gratitude to God for my

daughter, if I am not allowed to send out a video that touched me in hopes that

the video makes it's way to another person who may need it, if I am or won't be

accepted for who I am, then I have indeed signed up for the wrong group.

I have watched posts about NCLB, IQ testing, due process, etc.  All of those

topics can be related to politics.  Fortunately, no one was disrespectful enough

to question the motives of the person who posted it.

I've had several people email me privately, thanking me for posting the video.

I feel bad that perhaps they felt they couldn't post their comments on this

board.  I didn't ask them, I just accepted their thanks and knew that I had

touched someone today.

I have poured my heart and soul out on this board.  I have shared things will

all of you that I have never shared with anyone else.  Why is it acceptable to

ask for prayers, yet unacceptable to post a video on religion? One person turned

my posting into a 3 ring circus.  And for what?  I have no idea nor do I intend

to ask her because it will only prolong this disaster.

I do not apologize for posting; I only sincerely apologize for the fact that

there is a poster who took advantage of an innocent post and behaved in a way

that my nightmares for my daughter are made of.

I've been a member of this group for a couple of years and mostly just read.

But, I have to say...I know too many people who call themselves s, and

they don't defend their fellow man. I believe in God and when I see my son. I

see the miracle that is God.

I choose to help without judging others and without pushing my views. I believe

that you don't need religion to believe in God and sometimes those without

religion treat their fellow man better than those with a religion.

Just my view.

After reading the responses I have not watched the video. Perhaps when you

post a link like this a short synopsis as to the topic would be nice, THEN

we can decided whether to watch or delete.

Uggggg I really don't know what to say about this ....... I love the video, it

is on my MySpace account and my Facebook .... judge me all you all like now as

far as it being shared on the list, maybe in the subject line it could have

warned believers and nonbelievers of the content and posted on the weekends when

said we could share NON-DS stuff.

I have to say this though ...... if I did not have my faith I would have

crumbled when Sara my child with DS was so ill or when my mom died and now I am

dealing with so many medical issues and crummy life stuff hitting my family

...... I would hope my Upsndowns family would stand next to me, embrace me no

matter who I prayed too, I would hope I could come to you all and you would hold

me up .... not slam me for who I am, who I speak of and who I pray too.

Please everyone speak kindly and hit that darn delete button if you want .....

so many of us have greater issues to deal with then this video

With love

OK...... I am very surprised by the very angry reaction that came from this

email.  This is uncalled for and unreasonable.

I get this stuff all the time from friends and family.  The only thing I don't

like about any of them is that they always insinuate that you are not a good

Christian if you don't forward.  However, I don't typically share these types of

emails with the groups that I am on and I don't send the jokes either.  I guess

its sort of like going to a PTA meeting at school.  I'm doing the inspirational

message at the beginning of each meeting.  I have to be careful that it isn't a

message that mentions God/Jesus or has any other religious insinuations.  I have

to make sure they are kind of general so as to be respectful to all faiths.  I

happen to know the religion of almost everyone, there and almost all are

Christian so it really wouldn't be a problem, but it is a public school so it

isn't the time or place.  I feel like these groups are the same sort of thing?

They are a public forum to discuss our children and that is what basically

should be

discussed.  However, I see no horrible offense.  I light reminder, or just

ignoring it would be OK, I guess, but a public lynching?!?!?!?  I don't think

this was necessary at all!  I thought we were all adults here.  Most of these

reactions I feel were just ridiculous and over the top.  I agree with whomever

said that something in the subject line regarding the subject matter of the

email like " religious content " would be appropriate and acceptable if anyone

wanted to forward something like this in the future.

I have seen this video before and agree that it is awesome.  That is my opinion,

but no one on this list or anywhere else has to agree with me.  My husband

always says if someone states an opinion or a belief it is unarguable because it

is " his " opinion/belief.
