I wrote to the guild asking if I undertstood correctly that they were

making it mandatory for you to subsrcibe to the new company they found

to insure every type of product as RLI only insures soap not skincare

& you all know te capper thing going on. I really did not think they

could legally MAKE you take the insurance they found for their members

but I rec'd a post from the head of the guild yesterday stating that in

order to join you must take the insurance too. I re-joined this past

spring at their usual $80/yr fee and now MUST pay more to stay a

member.The fee is close to $450. I was a little perturbed-I am

assuming, sice they jointly worked with donna MArie's group to find

this insurance company that they are also mandating this to belong to

their group as well?

Deb,

As I understand it, if you have a current membership, your price is good

until you renew. Then yes, you have to pay for the insurance. I checked a

little bit into Donna 's, and it seems that unless you have insurance

through HMSG, you have to get insurance through them to join.

I was wondering are these insurance rates through Donna and the other

site, Soaper's something... I forget the name now... no good? I've been

soaping as a hobby since 1994. I've done fairs with a friend of mine who has

insurance and the proper vendor's permits, etc... but as I'm growing, I'm

looking

for insurance, licenses, etc., to begin at the new year.

Marisol, the insurance coverage, itself, seems to be great, although you

would want to read every bit of the policy and get whatever advice you need to

decide for yourself. The problem is that for someone who already has adequate

insurance, esp. if it costs less, they either have to give it up or not be a

member of either group.

come across, being that I'm in NYC.

Jeanine

Bob & I looked into RLI-told us they do not cover anything other than

soap according to the rep out in CA. I also was told NY was not under

the $5,000 capper but with so much confusion we are waiting it out. I

did not think a not for profit group cold force you into taking their

insurance. goodness this is confusing isn't it.

I'm in NY and the cap does apply to me. Maybe you're grandfathered in

until you renew? I'm also covered for everything I do. The only

problem I have is that cap!

What a shame if you have to be forced into this insurance package.
