Guest guest
You are in the teen years.... cannot fib if her life depended on it. She has tried, but once you look in those eyes, the truth comes pouring out. I think 2 things- I think because he started to laugh and pointed to Tim about the big trouble, he was probably joking around. Wanting to see how it would go if he pushed you and he is trying to push you. The other thing about fibbing is that I think some kids might have a hard time figuring out what is true and what is a fib. Trying to 'tell' a story and maybe adding in humor and trying to remember all the parts, would lead to some lies. All my 'stories' have fibs cuz it makes them much more interesting, lol. About telling you to 'shut up', from very early on I would not tolerate that phrase and treated it like it was a curse. But one thing about our kids- when they turn into teenagers, whatever delays they might have, the hormones kick in just like everyone elses and exhibit behaviors of very 'typical' teens. Yesterday said " Having diabetes sucks. " And I said, " Oh we use sucks now? " And she said, " Mom, I'm 18 you never know what will come flying out of my mouth. " LOL Treat like your 3 other teens to the extent that you can. You've been thru this before. You will survive. **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for Under $10. Guest guest
, I believe he is being rebellious and trying to test the waters to see if mom and dad are really a united front. I think it is a good sign. It means he is developing his own sense of identity and learning what is and what is not appropriate. It is how we learn some things. We try one thing and get praise, we try another and get consequence. The best thing you could probably to is to stay consistent and on the same page with your husband. It will give him a good firm base of what is right and wrong and it will give him much needed boundaries. It will not always be comfortable or happy for both parties involved, but sometimes learning about values, ethics, and morals is not comfortable, and can deal with very emotional issues. Stay strong and know even when he is being at his worst, you can be a firm yet soft place for him to land when he bounces off those boundaries. We all fall and do wrong, but teach him to get back up and try again, the right way, until he gets it right! Nolan-6 Phoebe Ds & Cf--4 _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of CSBC Sent: Tuesday, March 24, 2009 8:11 PM Upsndowns Subject: Telling fibs..... How many of you have dealt with or deal with your child telling stories/lies? When tells a story, it's hard to tell what part of it is true. For instance, a week or so ago, he told me that Tim was in big trouble. I asked him why and he told me that daddy gave him his meds. I gave his pills and have steadily for quite some time. So I asked Tim why he didn't double check with me and he told me he just took 's word for it when told him I didn't give it to him yet. I yelled at Tim, Tim called poison control and then we realized what had done. He wanted his dad in trouble. Or he wanted us to yell at each other, or who knows?? Poison Control said no problem..double dose of what he took wouldn't; harm him. So today, he tells Tim that I'm in big trouble - that I hit him this morning and hid his clothes. The truth was that he refused to get dressed for an hour and he swatted at me twice. So he was trying to get me in trouble this time or so it appears. Tim gave me a heads up while driving from work. When I confronted him (at a restaurant), he just pointed at Tim and said " DAD " ..and laughed. if he didn't start out with " Mom (or Dad) is in big trouble, I would think it's just a language problem. I " m wondering if Sponge Bob doesn't do something similar. Hummm. Last year he had bruises on his arm that he got from someone at school. I tried to get it out of him who did it (his teacher alluded that his aide had to restrain him on the bus), he told me his teacher did it. Then he told me that she slapped him and i asked him to show me how she slapped him and he demonstrated a slap in the face. She has paralysis in her arm and unless she used her other arm, she couldn't have slapped him. I couldn't get him to talk about the aid on the bus. I brought that issue to the school administrator with a caution that next time, I'm taking him to the ER and want it followed up on. There was a next time, only instead of bruises, his aide (this school year) flicked his ear to get attention on a Friday. I was notified on a Tuesday. He (the aide) was off for a week - I could not get to talk about that at all. We don't flick ears around here, but since then, he does try to flick his fingers towards my face. Two weeks ago he told me to shut up. He has told me to quit talking before, but to me, telling someone to shut up is as bad as a curse word. And it broke my heart. Either he heard this on Sponge Bob or from his old school. He hasn't stopped using that phrase. So can you tell that we are in the obnoxious teen years or what? Any suggestions/ideas? Guest guest
Sounds like typical teenage behavior to me ... testing limits to see what he can get by with. Hang in there, Mom. Guest guest
I can tell you with watching as much Spongebob in our house that it isn't that. My girls repeat everything that they hear and what they see - is non verbal so I didn't worry about cartoons until the girls got to this age. Since the girls repeat everything, my husband has to wait until it is repeated later in the night to watch South Park. But I can say with all the spongebob, he is not the problem. We had major behavior problems last year and come to find out it was that didn't like the aid on the bus in the morning, she was a nice lady but just didn't like her and when she was on we knew that we were going to be getting a phone call about the behaviors. When we finally realized what the problem was, the aid was gone due to injury for the remainder of the school year. This year we got a new bus driver and new aid and they have been wonderful with and he likes them both. Telling fibs..... How many of you have dealt with or deal with your child telling stories/lies? Guest guest
This reminds me of a friend whose kids were taught never to say " Shut up! " to anyone. One day she looked out and saw her daughter coming home and carrying on an argument or fight with another child. She heard Judi holler Shut Up! and told her not to say that. So Judi turned and shouted instead, " Shut your big fat mouth " . So much for that training. KIDS!!!! Guest guest
Shut up is also a bad word in our house. So, I'm driving my 8th grade Girl Scout troop somewhere, and was with me. They are talking a mile a minute, and one of the teens says " shut up " in conversation. gets all indignant and says " MOM, just said the bad S word " which caused (who knew at least one worse S word) gets all defensive and says " I didn't say a bad S word " . After several back and forths between her and , I finally realize exactly what was said :-) It was actually a very funny conversation, but I finally assured that I knew she did not say what SHE believed to be the " bad S word " , but that we didn't say Shut Up in our house, and was just letting her know that it wasn't OK. , mom to (13), (11 DS), and Sammy (9) JB66111@... wrote: > > This reminds me of a friend whose kids were taught never to say " Shut > up! I have four beds in one room ('s), a full sized bed in TJ's room, Katey's room is off limits to guests as is 's room. Heck, mine, too...lol. I also have three couches and three love seats -- a baby crib and a pack and play. TJ was recently home and said this house is too big for us now..lol...wait 10 years when I have more grandkids and I'll fill up the beds and couches. KIDS!!!! Guest guest
You have room for visiting friends from Arizona... with their 9 kids? We are making a trip to visit relatives in the midwest in June. You should HEAR the excuses that people come up with! Should be fun!
Guest guest
LOL!!! Many years ago, Sandy O'Hara and her family were planning a trip to DC. I offered to care for Kali for a day so they could have a good day with their two older kids. As soon as they left, I said " what the hell did I just get into " . Mind you, was a baby and here I was with Kali - an older child who I had a hard time understanding. We did ok though...did send the fire department away when they showed up unexpectantly. I'm so glad I have that memory of having the O'Hara's visit. And I learned not to let (or any kid with DS, especially Kali) watch Rescue 911.
