Your Chance To Tell Trainee OT's what you want from them !!! Please delete if this is not of interest to you

Hi Guys,

I'm asking for your help.

My no 1 daughter is a 1st yr OT student and has been given an assignment on

ds.Of 120 1st year students, she was the only one who chose to do it on ds

and hence, as a parent of a ds child, see this as a great opportunity to

introduce our future OT's to the world of ds from a sibling and parents

personal perspective, as well as hoping Danni get really good marks for it.

As it is to be presented to all the 1st yr OT students in both oral and

written form, it seems like a great opportunity for us as parents to get our

point of view across as to what we want and need from our ots. For our kids.

The 1st task she has to do is to design as speech to an interest group about

what she as an ot, can offer to enhance the occupational performance of a

child with ds and how she can meet their needs.

Any ideas or stories of your child's and your experiences with ot's will be

gratefully received.

Her 2nd task is to 'create a person' with this condition. Luckily, we have

Georgia to base it on (lol).In 2000 words, identify what occupational

performance issues this person faces and how you as an to can help them to

achieve their objectives, what therapies etc would you put in place, what

short and long term goals would you set and how can you help this person

achieve them.

One of the points she wants to make is that there is no such thing a ds

child, just individuals who were born with ds. She also wants to stress the

importance of a whole family therapy model, not just treating the child.

The text book she has to use has no mention of types of ds, so any info

anyone can give us on mosaic or translocation would also be very welcome.

Sorry this is so long and thank you in advance to anyone who can find the

time to respond as she is really after the ideas from you guys, as parents.
