Re: Is anyone else taking Ephedrine?

Yes, every few weeks ephedrine comes up again. I've tried it in the

past (different formulations), but I absolutely cannot take it. Even

the lowest dose taken at 8 am gives me insomnia 14 hours later. It

makes me jittery, anxious and irritable. Plus, a couple hours after

taking it I experience a huge energy crash. Honestly, no pill is a

fat burner. Nothing can " burn " fat except a good diet and exercise.

All ephedrine will do is give you slightly more energy to complete

your workout and maybe decrease your appetite (which is not really

something you want anyway).

I've heard that you are definitely support to cycle it if you take

it, though, because your body becomes used to the dose you give it.

Also, I've heard of people who've gone off it and gain a bunch of

weight back; once you're on it, and then you get off it, your

metabolism slows. Overall, I think it's a dangerous thing to play

around with and not worth it. That's just my opinion.

I have been taking epehdra for the past four weeks. I absolutely love the

energy it gives me too, as well as the fast weight loss. I believe you are

suppose to only use it every other day for 4 weeks, then you are to take 4-5

weeks off it. So you cut it pretty much cold turkey. If you take it longer

than 4 weeks your body becomes immune to it and it loses its effect.

I just quit taking it the other day. Today while doing my cardio i had a

hard time getting through it without the extra burst of energy. I think

while i am off it i will still take caffeine pills or possibly Lean sytem 7

or another type of fat burner to provide me with that extra energy i so am

addicted to.

I have taken ephedrine products with no problems. I like the energy

it gives me. The only thing I notice is that when I do stop taking

them, I have a headache the next day. Also, if I don't drink enough

water, I will get headache with them.

Ephedrine can be tricky, and even downright dangerous if misused or

abused.

The cycle of ephedrine is no more than 12 week, followed by 2 weeks

off.

I have tried a few different brands - notably " Ripped Fuel " by Twin

Labs and Beta Lean. The Ripped Fuel gave me a GREAT " up " , but the

down was hard and fast..... I did not like it. The EAS Beta Lean

gave me a gradual up - stayed up, and then landed me softly on a silk

pillow. ;-)

I cannot sya if it worked or not - becuae I hate taking pills, and

never stuck with this long enough to know if it did or did nto make a

difference. I think a good strong cup of coffee aabout 30 minutes

before a cardio workout can have a similar effect......

But - I had to stop taking this stuff because I started on Prozac.

Whatever you do - DO NOT take ephedrine f you are on prozac or any

MAOI inhibitors! (I did not do this - I knew not to!)

More on ephedrine from EAS website:

http://www.eas.com/products/product_select.asp

Yes - Beta Lean is discontinued - not becuase ephedrine did not work -

but because EAS's " proprietary blend " of added stuff to the

ephedrine and caffeine stack supposedly slowed down the effects of

ephedrine and caffeine. Go figure.......

If you want to burn fat faster, I would suggest building up mroe

muscle (as is the idea behind BFL) If you want to try supplements, I

found creatine to be quite effective - I felt strong - not " buzzed "

as with ephedrine.

Hope this helps.

Dragging out my soapbox....

I have been studying herbalism for about 5 years. Ephedra has been

used safely in LOW doses for centuries as a treatment for asthma. In

Chinese medicine it is called Ma Huong and it is one of the best

herbal treatments for asthma.

Then the supplement manufacturers got ahold of it and started selling

it in OVERDOSE quantities as a fat burner/energy source. Stupid

people who think that if some is good, more must be better started

taking even higher doses and died. Now the FDA is considering pulling

ALL ephedra-containing products from the market, even the asthma

treatments.

A valuable herbal remedy is about to be lost just because Americans

are too stupid and lazy and think there has to be a shortcut to

everything, including fitness. Thanks a lot!

I thought that Body for Life was about learning healthy choices that

will last a lifetime.

Putting the soapbox away now....

It is! Did you read the book? Where in the book does Bill tell you

that you have to take ephedrine? Please tell me the page numbers - I

am dying to find it.......

But I do agree with the other stuff you said about ephedrine.... if

you use it incorrectly it is dangerous. However, it can also be

harmful if you are taking MOI inhibitors or other drugs that can

interact with Ma Huang, are pregnant, have a heart condition etc.

Just because something is " herbal " does not mean that it is 100%

safe........

Please be careful as you step off your soapbox.... :-)

--- Just curious, did you do the program without taking it? What was

the difference? I can't take anything b/c my baby, but I'm curious if

it works.

That's exactly my point. Nowhere in the book does it advocate taking

ephedrine. That's why I'm questioning why women claiming to be doing

BFL are taking it.

You're also right that just because something is herbal doesn't make

it safe. Some of the deadliest poisons are herbs. That's why

consulting with a health care professional or herbalist is so

important, especially if you have an underlying health condition.

This is one of my hot-button topics and I apologize if I came on too

strong. We're all adults here and capable of making our own decisions.

I have to add my .o2 worth..A few months ago a guy in my gym was found

dead .He was working out after hours and was there by himself..I knew

Terry pretty well we had talked about the program and he had given me

some advice...He was taking ephedra and was also taking aspirin to thin

his blood...The aspirin gives the ephedra a little kick... tried it and

it took me almost 24 hours before I could go to sleep...It was a rush

that I can do without..I guess the pont of this story is just to be

careful...what Tery was taking contributed to his heart attack..

There is nothing INCIDENTAL or ACCIDENTAL with God.....

I tried to take it once about a year ago with terrible side effects

for me. I took it as directed by by the 3rd day I was a total

hysterical mess.

I had locked myself in the bathroom at work and was crying

hysterically, had sucidial feelings, came home and went off on my

husband for gosh only know why...told him I wanted a divorce, etc.

Still to this day I havent a clue what the heck happened, but I know

that I will NEVER take anything again that has that in it.

I see it advertised up the wazoo in the fitness magazines, that is

why I tried it. Guess I will just have to do it the old fashioned

way...after all thats how I gained it...LOL

Well, just becuase you are taking supplements, (glutamine, creatine,

ephedra or otherwise) does not mean you are not doing BFL.....

When I did my first challenge, I changed my reps to 15-12-10-8-15-15

for C1 (as I posted earlier today). I took creatine. I tried

ephedra. I worked out exactly as stated in the book. I even played

ice hockey and skiied during my 12 weeks. (OK - so I counted a full

day of skiing as my cardio on occassion!) I lost 25 pounds of fat and

gained 5 pounds of muscle... Was I " not " doing BFL?......
