Could some of you who use saline descibe this a bit more. I can't get a

picture of how this works or how it holds the EEG lead to the head. Thanks,

Last night I figure out a way so you don't have use paste. Thus, you don't

have to clearn out the paste.

Take a small piece of gauze and wet it with Saline Solution. Wrap the

gauze around the ear lobe and put on the ear clip. It works just like the

flextrode. Got great readings!!

Some practitioners have been using saline sponges around electrodes for

years. Jon Cowan taught me to use them about 10 years ago. I now cut up

cosmetic sponges into small squares.

Yes Diane

We do something like this , we donnt like paste. Specially I that train everyday

on Meditation and sometines 2 timnes a day.

It is very irritative for the ear lobes the frecuente use of paste.

Saline solutions work fine!

Best

Diane,

I have been using saline for earclips for quite a while. Instead of

gauze I have sewn little pouches of felt that slip over the

electrode. I found with the really bouncey kids I see, that holding

the material against the ear and then putting on the clip was

frustrating. With the pouches the kids can put them on themsleves if

they want, and it is a smoother procedure all the way around.

I order my paste and Nuprep from Neuro Supplies, Inc.

website: neurosupplies.com

They have a first-rate and interesting 46-page catalog depicting about

everything a professional would need for biofeedback.

The best is using double sided velcro strips, one as a head band and another

as a cross strap to hold sponges against the scalp. They are often found in

computer supply areas to help keep wires under control. Placing a sponge

against the earlobe inside an earclip electrode actually makes them more

comfortable. Occasionally they try to slip off the ears. I wash them in

antibacterial detergent, rinse with hot water, and they dry quickly. I

imagine that wet cotton balls would work as well and be disposable.

Question for saline users: do you prep your sites the same as for paste?

Absolutely! Alcohol always, Nuprep as needed. Sometimes I put some 10/20

paste in the cup inside the sponge, especially if I am having a difficult

time getting the resistance down. It seems to help.

Lisette,

I just reread your other email and realized: it sounds like you are holding the

electrode on a sponge on the head with the velcro but not using the BrM

flextrodes. Is this correct? Does the material in the velcro absorb the fluid

from the sponges? Are you putting the electrodes inside a sponge sock (like

's little felt bags)?

I am trying to get this down...cannot stand the paste any more and am not

getting clear signals with it most of the time...and the head is definitely

prepped and everything looks great.

Thanks,

Rosemary

I am a visitor that does not yet have the Brainmaster. I use 9 mm silver

cup electrodes and eartrodes that I get from Eletrocap International.

Sometimes I cut a slit in the sponge to slide the cup in, but I do not do

that for the eartrodes. They are clips with a silver cup like old fashioned

earrings, so I pad the front of the earlobe. I like the idea of a felt

pocket and may try that!

Please check with Pete before you order any other electrodes. I am not sure

what the Brainmaster requires.

I forgot to answer your other question. Yes, the fabric does wick some

moisture. I use mostly monopolar, so there still is isolation. The sponge

lifts up the velcro strip so that it is not in contact with the scalp at the

electrode site. I imagine for two electrodes under one strip, there may be

a problem if they are close to each other and the strap is wet.

Rosemary,

I have put the felt covered electrodes on the scalp then held them

down with the velcro, but find that is not quite effective if the

head I am training moves around a lot. I used to use flextrodes but

when one of teh rings myusteriously disappeared from my office I

designed my own that worked in the same type of velcro that BMr used

then I got tired of the limited placement options the their cross

strap offered so I made my own strap as well. I finally got a

version that seems to last.
