Guest guest
Hi Jeanine - I didn't know I could get RBO in a pail. I bought a case of 6 gallon jugs for $35 and they took my debit card over the internet. The customer service was excellent. I had a personal confirmation within the day and had my oil in 2 or 3 days. I haven't soaped with it yet. I just wanted to try it half and half with the olive and see if I like the feel of the soap. I've heard different reviews. Do you find your soap to be softer? Maybe next time I'll try the pail so I don't have all of these jugs on the shelf taking up space. :-) Katy Jeanine Van Voorhees wrote: >I just bought a 35 lb pail of RBO from Riceland Foods for 33.66. Guest guest
I got it from Riceland too but my shipping was about $17. Here's the link http://www.riceland.com/consumers/gifts/details.asp?pid=69 Keep us posted on how your soap turns out. I'm going on vacation and probably won't get a batch made with it for another few weeks. Katy Jeanine Van Voorhees wrote: >Hi Katy, > > > >Where did you get your rbo/ Mine came in a big jug actually. Guest guest
I think you have to ask for the 35 lb 'pail'. Did it all on the phone. Have a great vacation. Guest guest
I began subbing in soybean oil for 1/2 of my olive oil last year and have been very happy with my soap quality. I love my soybean candles and like the idea of supporting american agriculture through the use of soy products. Why did you all decide on rbo? deb
Guest guest
Katy, Can you substitute RBO instead of OO without a lye ajustment??? Guest guest
Hi , I'm not Katy, but no, you need to run it through a lye calculator because they have different sap values.\ HTH! :-) Re: RBO instead of OO > Katy, > Can you substitute RBO instead of OO without a lye ajustment??? > > -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Where do you get yours? > > Katy Katy-this is extreamly delayed but I wanted to comment on the DOS. I didn't see anyone say why they decided on using rice bran inplace of the olive oil when looking back? I attended a seminar by a chemist down in PA last year at the HMAG conference. The chemist had done a controlled study with his university students on the whys and hows of DOS in soapmakingIt is definitly the unsaturated fats that suffer the most from oxidization. They tried all kinds of oils and preservatives and the final results showed that using ROE (rosemary oleosporin extract)at 10% before adding lye to the oils was the best way to deter ROE. I only had two culprits and I believe they were the solvent bases the manufacturer used to formulate their FO. Since using the ROE I have not had any DOS at all this year in any old soaps not sold. My big problem is the gas heater in the soap shop-it tends to turn some of my soaps & labels tan/orange. Dunn told me it was the sulpher in the air from this.
