Guest guest
, I'm familiar with the Tampa-St. Pete area, and I'd have to say you've just had a run of bad luck with physicians. You certainly aren't in the boonies by any means. I hope you have a different primary than you did in 2003 & 2006, yes? As to the pcp not testing for the PA, most pcp's are not the least bit knowledgeable in this area. Most of the people on this board were mis-diagnosed by their PCP and other docs for years before getting an appropriate diagnosis. In general, you ought to be seeing a nephologist or endocrinologist for proper diagnosis and, even then, many of them may not be sufficiently knowledgeable. Does your insurance require a referral? If so, you may want to come prepared with the name of a knowledgeable doctor on your plan. One such individual in your area is Dr. Arunabha Ganguly in Tampa ( http://health.usf.edu/medicine/internalmedicine/endocrinology/index.htm). You ought to check to see if he's on your plan and sees patients who would not normally go to the VA hospital. He's published several articles on PA over the years and at least one with Drs. Grim and Weinberger in the mid-1980's. If he's not covered on your plan, he probably can recommend someone knowledgeable who may be. Dr. Grim may be able to recommend other docs in your area as well. -Jeff On 4/15/07, kbcatlin22 <kbcatlin22@...> wrote: > > ct scan showed left adrenal cyst of 1 cm. mri diagnosed left > adrenal gland adenoma of 5 mm. Guest guest
Hi : It would help if you post any lab results here so Dr. Grim can take a look. Also with Conn's one way to know is if meds such as Aldactone work for you. If so, your bp will be controlled within few days. Do you have any problems with potassium? One could have adrenal tumors but they may not be the result of access aldosterone. Hope you feel better soon. Was K low then? Acalcululus cholecystitis means you had an inflammed GP but no stones which is very unusual. I recommend you get the pathology report on this. May your pressure be low! Clarence E. Guest guest
, Since you live in Fla, I would say forget about the others and go to the Mayo Clinic in ville. My primary keeps telling me that I should go to Mayo. I have heard from people in this web site that the one in Minn is better for treating PA but since you live in Fl, I would start there. If you need a referral for insurance, tell you primary that you want to go there, he probably won't object. For the most part, I think if drs aren't sure what to do, they won't even try. Guest guest
you've been through a lot. Wow Jeff, It shouldn't be that hard. I'm still in early stages of diagnosis myself and waiting for the next step. I have 2 internists at the moment. Somehow it feels like a conflict... I should only have 1... One is looking at my headaches and very interested in my BP issues....I've only had one visit with him and he wasn't shy about his opinion on how he'd treat my BP (it's different than the first one) but right now I'm still following the first one. The first one has been trying to figure out if I have PA and got me referred to Endo but he's also misdiagnosed me in the past. (ie: he thought I had a tumor behind my eye) He has also been looking after my BP issues. When he first did aldo/renin testing (2005), it was suggestive of Conn's but nothing was done until just recently. I guess looking at the posts here, people see many specialists. I appreciate the fortitude I see in many people here who seem to persevere in getting down to a right diagnosis. > > > > > > > > ct scan showed left adrenal cyst of 1 cm. mri diagnosed left > > > > adrenal gland adenoma of 5 mm. I recommend you get the pathology report on this. 4-1-03 k 3.6 (3.5-5.3) 5-21-03 final diagnosis gallbladder, cholecystectomy: chronic cholecystitis, benign lymph node gross description: the specimen, labeled " gallbladder " , consists of an intact gallbladder, 7.5 x 3 x 2 cm. the cystic node of Calot is identified and is 1 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm. the gallbladder is opened and is filled with dark green, thick bile. the gallbladder wall is 1 cm. the mucosa is dark green and roughened. gallstones are not identified and representative sections are submitted in cassette " A1 " symptoms: pain upper right abdominal quadrant 4-5 on 1-10 scale, after meals especially, fever, belching. Both my primary and I thought gallbladder, but it was hard to find a surgeon to take it out. appendix: 11/21/04 started with generalized pain middle of abdomen that traveled to the lower right quadrant. fever, high white blood cell count, thickened appendiceal wall on ct scan on 11/24/06. was being admitted for surgery the next morning, but a different doctor told me I had gastroenteritis and sent me home. I went right to the surgeon who took out my gallbladder. Because I had bilateral ovarian cysts too, I was shuttled back and forth between surgeons and gynecologists. I saw 23 doctors/surgeons and went to 8 hospitals/emergency rooms, one of them three times, one of them two times. I literally begged for surgery. Pain 8/10 all of the time the pain traveled to the upper right quadrant, then across the abdomen to the left side. I had a left pleural effusion. I had acute gastritis, pancreatitis, liver damage. Paucity of mesenteric fat, diffuse lymph nodes in mesentery larger than expected. I had fluid in the pelvic cul de sac that caused severe shoulder pain. I developed fibroids where I had none before. I had solid nodules in both ovaries that went away. I stopped menstruating. I had diarrhea for 1 1/2 years, until the narcotics slowed it down. The pleural effusion affected the left lung, I had crackles, wheezing and tackycardia. I developed MRSA in May of 2005. Last outbreak in October of 2006. was on antibiotics oral, iv, topical for months. I started bleeding from both the upper and lower intestines, so was finally referred to a new surgeon in town who took out the appendix and adhesions. He also took out the left ovarian cysts. side affects 9 months after surgery: my bowels do not move by themselves. I have to take bysocodyl suppositories every other day or I go weeks without a bowel movement. spinal degeneration. plus all the symptoms I mentioned earlier. 7-21-06 procedure: diagnostic lap, lap appendectomy and lysis of adhesions final diagnosis: mild chronic appendicitis with fecalith formation gross description: the specimen, labeled " appendix " , consists of a vermiform appendix, 8 x 0.5 cm. sectioning demonstrates a fecal filled lumen and a 0.1 cm. wall. sections are submitted under cassette " A1 " . > > > > May your pressure be low! > > Clarence E.
