Guest guest
HELP!!!! Does anyone here know of an effective, non-chemical way to get rid of head lice? My poor dolly had them mid-December and after 4 or 5 applications of lice shampoo she only had a few eggs left. That was about 1.5-2 weeks worth of picking eggs from her head. Well guess what, she's got it again now! I spoke to the school nurse today & she said it's been pretty prevalent in the school this year. Um, hello? Why are the parents not being informed to keep an eye out for this? Ah, but that's another story. LOL! Anyway, I've done bunches of research on the net & now I'm coming to all of you. Is there any combo of essential oils and carrier oils that you know of that will get rid of these bugs? Luckily she takes it all in stride. She knows there are " bugs " living in her head & doesn't seem to care. Everyone else in the house keeps their distance from her and is all squimish! Thanks everyone!!! Guest guest
OMG Colleen, I remember when Gretchen, our youngest, was in third grade. She had the most beautiful pure blonde hair!!! And a head full of lice. At that time we used ne - highly toxic. But who knew then. I ended cutting out the hair with the nits with a manicure scissors and putting the trimmings on a newspaper and then into the fireplace. Her hair was so fine the nit comb wouldn't work. Of thirteen students in the class all thirteen were infested. After I called the school the siblings' classes were checked. My other kids were bug free thank goodness. That was one horrific month. Now the over the counter meds seem to work well. Don't forget to vacuum couches and strip the bed to the mattress and vacuum the mattress. If you have to take anything to the cleaners, put it into a plastic bag and let the cleaner know what he's dealing with. You and your daughter have my sympathy. Guest guest
Oh... Thanks Jeannine! The reason it came to mind was that last year I was talking to my doctor's nurse about other uses of TTO and told me last year that when she lived in the south the whole family used it as a preventive for head lice. I don't know how much she used or the delivery system though. www.BlueMountainBotanicals.com OT - Head Lice HELP!!!! Does anyone here know of an effective, non-chemical way to get rid of head lice? Guest guest
Colleen My heart goes out to you and your daughter. Boy, how well I remember my youngest daughter catching them in school. I had no idea she had the problem. In fact, I had to find out from my hair dresser when I took her for a haircut and she said she couldn't do it due to lice. I was sick - especially since my daughter said the whole class was checked by the school nurse that very day because they were going around. The nurse told her she was clear - boy how wrong she was!! But you definitely have to wash all her bed sheets in HOT water and if the sheets are white I'd throw a lot of chlorox in the water, too. It's possible that you didn't get rid of all of them the first time so she never really got rid of them. They're so hard to see especially if she's got light colored hair. OT - Head Lice HELP!!!! Guest guest
Olive oil, mayo or vaseline!! Slather her head in olive oil, wrap it all up so it doesn't get all over, and leave it on there as long as possible. Over the weekend is good. It smothers the adults and makes the rest easier to comb out. If you can leave it on for 4 days it will kill just about everything because it will get them as they hatch. Go ahead and Google it, I'm not as crazy as I sound. *grin* There's even a website out there selling a kit with instructions for $50!!! Now why didn't I think of that!! LOL! Guest guest
, I love TTO, too. Cured my husbands very bad rotten toenail that even the podiatrist couldn't fix. It also works for athlete's foot but some people tend to overdo, if a little bit is good a lot is better, type of thing. The problem with head lice are those stubborn nits. Guest guest
I only placed Tea tree EO on my hand rubbed around and then dispersed through daughters hair, and my hair too, to prevent me from getting it. My daughter never got harmed from it. Guest guest
I came across a web site once, in my research for a product to sell at work, of these two moms who did a test of " natural " head lice treatments. Basically they took a quarter of the kids, at a local school, who had head lice and used standard removal and checking it over and over for like a month... The next 1/4 they used the Mayo and Original Dawn dish liquid... Another 1/4 used one of the " natural " kits and the last 1/4 the used a natural product called " lice free 1 2 3 " The result was that the Mayo/Dawn version and the " 1 2 3 " worked best of all methods, and even better then all previously used pharmaceutical methods (RIT, Quell, etc.)... We've got some good feedback one the " 1 2 3 " product as well. I've used, on my niece, a rosemary/tea tree/jojoba oil treatment... With some decent results, but follow through and follow up with pulling the critters from the hear dead or alive is first and foremost important. When using the comb have a cup of soapy water handy... The reason it needs to be soapy is that those guys can jump like 10 feet or something, and they are light enough that the can use the surface tension of regular water to jump off of. The soap makes the surface tension of the water much less... And they can't jump back out. Hope all of that helps you some Sam RE: OT - Head Lice Colleen: I found this website that claims it has a " natural " hair product for head lice.
