Guest guest
Colleen, I know exactly how you feel!!! This happened to me a couple of weeks ago with the fo rose geranium. I had just finished a batch (exact same recipe) of black raspberry vanilla that I was able to swirl nicely.. The rose geranium was the pits!! I did the same thing with my hands - no gloves on of course. The soap looks a bit different, hard to describe, Smells wonderful. Will try it in a couple of weeks. The only real problem was my hands. They were extremely dry and rough. It seemed I couldn't work fast enough pushing this concoction into the molds. I think Irene mentioned warming the fragrance before adding the lye. Someone on another list adds her fragrance before she adds the lye. Don't know what happened with my batch. Maybe the oils were too cool. I try to use room temp lye but maybe it was too cold. Wish I had an answer. I made the batch as usual (cp), put in the eo, stirred, set the whisk down (in the pot), turned away for a second & when I came back to it it was stiff. I dug the soap out of the pot and pushed it into the mold by hand. LOL, boy did I have a mess, little soap balls everywhere! I covered it up and haven't touched it. So, question is, do you think this soap will turn out okay? It's supposed to be a soap to sell, not for me to keep at home. Thank you!!! Guest guest
Colleen, I had this happen, but it usually happens with FOs or with EOs of the " spice " family... The soap does turn out but not so pretty. You can rebatch it though to smooth it out. How much soap was it in pounds? How do you cut the final bars? Leigh Leigh M. Guest guest
Oh, don't you just hate that!? The only time I have it happen with an EO is when I'm using cinnamon leaf alone or in a blend. What EO were you using? Your soap will probably be fine. You may end up with a few air pockets and it might not be as pretty but it's still soap. Sorry I can't be more help! Let us know how it turns out. Katy Colleen ston wrote: >Ugh, never had this happen & am hoping it turns out okay. Yup, I had just done a batch of Peppermint Tea Tree & it came out fine. I think my oils were warmer than normal, so I don't know if that had something to do with it or not. I put a rubber glove on one hand to put the soap in the mold, but it kept sticking to the glove so I ended up using my un-gloved hand too. I didn't have any problems with that, thank goodness! Guest guest
> How much soap was it in pounds? How do you cut the final bars? It was a 2 pound batch, in a wood loaf mold. How do I cut the final bars? LOL! Well that all depends on my mood! I can't cut straight, and depending on the final weight of the loaf is usually how I decide to cut. If I know I can get " x " amount of " x ounce " bars from the loaf I will figure out how to cut it that way to get that amount. Oh, so technical I am not! Hehehe! I'll wait to see how it turns out. I've never rebatched, so that will be another challenge! Guest guest
> What EO were you using? Well, I'm hoping this was a fluke & doesn't happen again! Wishful thinking I'm sure though. I used Summer Magic EO from Emporium Naturals. I think I used it a while back in a batch of hot process maybe. I don't remember it causing problems though. Oh well! Thanks everyone for your ideas! Guest guest
lol it sounds as though it cooked longer than normal. Yes I think Soap will still be good, but may have to be un-molded earlier, and cut. Gabby > > Ugh, never had this happen & am hoping it turns out okay. Guest guest
I couldn't afford a soap cutter set from creekside soaps, so to cut my bars straight; my boyfriend purchased me a Saw box (yellow plastic thing with marks in it to cut wood in different angles, also had measurement on it), and a stainless steel spakle knife (rectangle one) and it fit just nicely in Saw box thingy. NICE.... The other cool cutting tool I purchased lately for 1.50 was a dough cutter? For when your kneeding dough it helps scrape it free from table. This tool is 1/8th inch thick non bendable and stanless steel with plastic grip. Works great. Marie > > How much soap was it in pounds? Guest guest
> > Colleen, How is your soap lookin now? I took it out this am and it looks like a loaf of soap to me. I can see from the sides lumpy places where I'll have air pockets. I broke off a bit and washed my hands with it, it's soap for sure. LOL! I've got some errands to run & then I'll cut it when I'm done. I'll let you know what the inside looks like in a couple hours.
