Hi,  I have a mass on my adrenal gland, I had a long history of high bloodpressure, and an inabilaty to keep my potassium up . I now take 80mg of potassium a day and blood pressure meds and spinorolactone everyday since finding my aldosterone was high also.  I have heard that removal of the tumor might help. I would like to know of a good specialist to see in the houston tx area that i might go see about this. Thanks, pam

It sounds like you have Primary Aldosteronism until proven otherwise. If the adrenal mass is making too much aldo and it is the only source then taking it would has a 50-50 chance of curing you. The only way to predict this is to have and AVS sampling done.

See my artcile in our files on the evolution of PA and take it to your Dr.

Please send all lab tests and your complete story. Spare no details of your story.

How much sprio are you on now?

Trust your health care team also told you about the DASH diet. If not get the book and start on it now.

Try to get to see Dr. or Poole-both excellent. Tell them Dr. Grim is referring you.

May your pressure be low!

Welcome to the group, Pam! You will find a ton of great information

on these pages. Make sure to do a bunch of reading to educate

yourself, and feel free to ask any questions you may have. We're all

here to help, and you'd be surprised how similar all of our stories

are to your own.

Good Luck!

Kind Regards,

I just joined this group looking for support and answers. I have been

taking atenolol for several years for high blood pressure. In June

2006, I went to the ER with severe headache, chest pain, and

uncontrollable vomiting, was admitted to ICU with hypertensive crisis

(230/158). CT tests showed adrenal mass 4-5cm, (previously

undiagnosed) and MRI confirmed. When blood pressure was lowered, I was

released pending further investigation of adrenal mass, and placed on 3

more blood pressure meds. I have had several 24hr urine tests,

Dexymethasone suppression test, and plenty of bloodwork to evaluate

hormonal levels. Chest pains Aug 2006, went to ER again, and admitted

to hospital for evaluation and released, told to add baby aspirin to my

medicine regimen. Recent (Sept 06) CT scan shows adrenal mass same

size. I continue to experience nausea, dizziness & lightheadness, as

well as stress re what does all this mean? I have not been given any

firm answers other than, we will watch it and retest in 3 months

(December). I don't know if your group can help me, but so far it is

the closest I can find to what I am experiencing. Any suggestions?

For starters:

What are your aldosterone and renin levels, and what ratio does your doc use to diagnose hyperaldosteronism?

What meds are you on?

Are you DASHing (i.e., very low salt diet)?

I'm sure Dr. Grim will have more questions.
