Answer:

1. My Mother did have some high BP readings but she doesn't

monitor it or take any meds. I told her to get a reading so I would

know if her BP is under control. My grandmother died of a stroke.

My aunt has hypertension and on 2 meds. I am unaware of any family

history of low K.

2. No I do not eat licorice. I do not care for it.

3. No I am not on Spiro yet. I am waiting for further follow up

since my CT scan. Is that necessary for high aldosterone levels?

I have heard about the Dash diet. I will get the book.

So if my tumor is not Conn's related, I could still have hypertension

after surgery?

get as much history of this as you can.

Dr. Grim,

Thank you for the welcome to the group! I think it's great to have

you give of your time this way on the internet to help patients.

Thanks! I am navigating my way around and it's interesting to read

about other people's experiences.

I do admit I am somewhat overwhelmed. I am cautiously hopeful of

getting off my meds - lifestyle changes, etc.

I am trying to be a 'patient' patient waiting for the next step in

the process.

Is a possible cause of PA stress? Can you grow a tumor from

stress?

I've been taking note of questions to ask the surgeon or my

Internist. Some of the test result numbers I remember but I plan on

asking for more specifics in the future or print out would be even

better.

Do you have to have consistent HTN in order to be diagnosed with

Conn's Syndrome? My BP fluctuates up and down.

I look forward to learning more as time goes on and getting to know

the others in the group.

Another question:

My resting heart rate is usually about 85-88 bpm in the morning.

During the day the range lately has been 77-88 bpm.

It wasn't that long ago my heart rate was in the 50's.

As long as it's under 100 bpm and not below 50, is that the standard?

In gerenal I ignore the heart rate as long as it is regular. Better to focus on the BP and get it to goal.

Read my art on the Evolution of PA. It is likely that BP creeps slowly up as the tumor grows and maybe more variable as the bodies control systems attempt to keep it "normal."

We dont know what causes the hyperplasia that seems to set the ground for one large bump to excel. Stress and intemittent ACTH bursts is one of the concepts we are studying-esp in African Americans as they seem to have more early PA than others.

I had a stress test in July. I do have an 'extra' heartbeat (don't

know the technical term) but it's nothing to be concerned about

apparently. I also have a large cyst on my kidney which I knew about

prior to the CT scan. I'm told this too is nothing to worry about.

Large cysts can cause high blood pressure. Depends on how large. Do you know the size?
