Guest guest
Dr. Grim, My Pain Mngmt Doc recently prescribed metoclopramide for nausea & pain (migraines/headaches), and I have a concern because of info I have come across online about metoclopramide increasing alsdosterone production. When I asked him about it, and showed him an article I had read from the JCEM http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/52/5/1014, he said it would be ok. Because I am currently off my inspra for a 5 week period in order to take a final 'difinitive' test for PA and don't want to do anything to mess it up...like take this drug. What do you think? I have been dealing with this daily nausea now for 3 months and can certainly continue to do so if need me for a few more weeks... Kim in MN It should not be a problem but would like to know what they think is causing all the nausea. If you throw up you may be losing K this way as well. May your pressure be low! C.E. They don't seem to have a clue re/the nausea, other than possibly because of medication or because of the a esophageal (sorry -sp?) ulcer they just found. They will be starting me on something, not sure what (acid reducer, etc.), waiting for doc to call, so haven't bothered with metoclopramide. The nausea is not really that bad (no vomiting), I just usually eat some saltines (unsalted) and that settles it down. I'd rather do that then take more Rx's. Unfortunately, I am afraid it is my Potassium chloride pills that caused this darn ulcer. I always followed the instructions to a 'T' (drinking a huge glass of water and no laying down for at least 30 minutes). Does the Klor-Con come in a different format other than a pill? I'll probably be able to get by withhout taking any for awhile, but I bet it won't be too long before I'll need them again... Kim in MN Good reason to use low sodum V-8-you get 20 mM K in small can-no ulcers and it tastes better. It is even not a bad bloody mix. May your pressure be low! C.E. Guest guest
I think it is the best tasting of all the commercially sold tomato juices - more naturally sweet. I will say that once I got on sprionolactone and lowered my dietary sodium intake, my potassium shot back up to normal and has stayed there. No need to supplement. That's just my own experience, however.
