30s should be good for your first challenge. You may eventually need to go

heavier on your legs. I sometimes use 40-45 lb dumbbells for squats and lunges.

Grip strength starts becoming an issue though. Without lifting straps, you can

only hang onto a 45 lb dumbbell for so many minutes before your fingers break

off. Eventually, it makes more sense to do leg work with a bar on your shoulders

than to torture your fingers and forearms with heavier and heavier dumbbells.

How much can you lift?

I'm getting all my stuff ready for starting my first

ever challenge next week. I'm curious, when you're

lifting dumbbells, what's the max weight you can lift?

So far, I've got up to 30 lbs (actually, they're still

in the mail, so I haven't had a chance to give them a

test drive yet). Am I likely to need more than that by

the end of my 12 weeks?
