Guest guest
, Can you share that poem again...I've forgotten it, and would like a " new " one to maybe use as a gift this year. In the past I've been using the " Whose Child Is This " poem. Thanks, Sandi - mom to Shelby (10 w/ ds), Stuart (6), (5), and (17 mos) @ @ @ @ @ ...\)/...\)/...\)/...\)/...\)/.. Guest guest
For the past several years I have given a donation to a charity in honor of each teacher/therapist that works with Shelby. The donation usually goes to a group that we are personally involved with in one way or another. I usually try to do it early enough (like NOW) so that I can get a written recognition (from the charity) to give to each person. The year she had heart surgery, the donation went to the American Heart Association. Another year it went to Special Olympics, because she was participating in their program. This year it will go to VSAarts, because she has performed in their plays for the past three years. The written acknowledgement is given to the person, along with a nice note card. To this I may add, a framed poem ( " Whose Child Is This " ), a Down syndrome lapel pin (great for wearing on their badge " cords " ), or some other small token. This year I think I'm going to have the kids paint a small flower pot and then plant some flowers. To wrap everything I have Shelby write the recipients name on a plain gift bag and decorate it! Guest guest
HI- Should you give the same present that you give to the main teacher as you do the aides and helpers? I was going to give a $20 gift certificate to my daughter's teacher but I can not do that for everyone. Does anyone every give anything to the districts special services administrator or the school nurse? I was thinking that I should because they were helpful to us this year. Guest guest
I used to really feel I should give " more personalized " gifts to teachers and those who spent a lot of extra time for , and more " I appreciate you " type of gifts for those who worked with , but didn't put in the time that the teachers did. I'm getting a bit weary of all the thinking involved :-) Last year, I pretty much gave a framed starfish poem (complete with starfish on watery paper, as described on this list... what a HIT!) and a dining gift certificate (if I knew their favorite place, I got that, otherwise I picked a lunch spot near school) to the classroom teacher, resource teacher, and speech therapist (because she's been a fabulous advocate for , and I knew she'd like the poem.) I gave a dining gift certificates (in a nice Thank you card) to 's 1:1 aide, the resource room aide, school psychologist (the most creative and patient tester ever!), and the OT. If I feel others have been particularly helpful (like this year, I will add the inclusion specialist to my end-of-year gift list, as well has her assistant who has been doing great modifications for science and social studies.) Of course, this really can add up, and I'm a believer in " it's the thought that counts. " If all I can do is $5-10 gift card for lunch, well, it's lunch :-) I thinking taking the time to write a heartfelt thank you note goes a long way, so for those you feel less inclined to " gift " but want to thank.... go for just a nice card. A flower from your garden delivered with the card (by your smiling child) will mean more than bath gel in a fancy basket (unless you know what kind they like, LOL.) Glad we're talking about this now.... it always comes up so fast, and I'm scrambling on the last couple days of school! , mom to (12), (10 DS), and Sammy (8) D wrote: > HI- > Should you give the same present that you give to the main teacher as > you do the aides and helpers? Guest guest
What a wonderful idea Granny - a box filled with practical bits and pieces which will be used. I very seldom gave gifts to my children's teachers. Why - because I had heard stories of the neighbourhood kids being given the gifts that one teacher had received and other gifts not really appreciated. In my opinion, they are paid well and don't need a myriad of little gifts, which they probably don't really want/need. A lot of parents struggle financially without the extra burden of giving a gift to a teacher. Unfortunately there are some teachers who expect a gift and do make comments to their students if they haven't been given one by them! Keep smiling Jan, mother of Trent 23yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder Re: teachers gifts What I always did was give them boxes filled with paperclips, red pencils, pens, bulletin board and the like. Not at all expensive to put together and they always loved it. granny On Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 11:25 AM, angie <atate526@...> wrote: > > > > > Its that time again.......times are tough and we have sooo many > teachers....what are some of you guys doing next week for all of your > teachers??? > > ~Angie~ > May God Bless You As He Has Us > > ~~DREAM BIG~~ > > An extra little chromosome, > that's all it is, you see. > Where all of you were born with two, > She was blessed with three. > >
Guest guest
There is a convenience store near the school, the teacher told me the aides go there all the time for coffee so I've gotten them gift cards from there. For the teacher, I've gotten her a movie rental gift card because she sometimes rewards the class with a movie. This way it's not paid out of her pocket. Our problem this year is, he has the same staff so I can't repeat gifts. Still trying to think something up. I forgot about teacher appreciation-UGH! I was trying to get a jump on end-of-the-year gifts. Di Judge not, and ye shall not be judged. Condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned. Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven. Luke 6:37 Re:teachers gifts I usually resort to the gift card idea too. But it does get pricey, and I can only do $5 - if it's a significant person (teacher, favorite bus driver, etc) I sometimes do $10. But $5 could buy a sale book, or a coffee or drink at a bookstore, or here in our little suburb I got $5 cards to a locally-run coffee shop. I figured that would help that little business too. I try to be as practical as possible too. Last year we made soap.I went to s, and bought the molds, scents, colors and soap.It was sort of expensive, but we gave about 5-6 little soaps to around 10 different people. They are obviously hand-made, and I figured, everyone can use soap! I hope someone posts the starfish poem idea again! Guest guest
I did the starfish poem last year. Printed it on scrapbooking paper(ocean background) and framed it. I glued real dried starfish to it. For the teacher he had 2 years ago. Did the poem in a frame but got a shadow box from the craft store. Put some starfish inside, sealed it up, painted it-it turned out cute.
