Debi,

I am going to try this again, I had written out a long, thought out

response to you, and then my son Danny deleted it on me. I should

just stick to posting at night ;o)

It is very common for the ortho to be the one to tell you when your

child has graduated from the band, regardless of whether or not

you've been back to see your specialist. I know a lot of parents

here see their specialist in order to get the prescription for the

helmet/band, and then don't need to go back ever again. I also want

to say that if you feel Mikey needs more time in his band, then call

your ortho and tell them so, especially if Mikey has some unresolved

tort. Its very frustrating being at the point where you are because

you just want all of this behind you, but you also want to make sure

your child has received the most correction that he possibly can

since time is of the essence.

I'm sure Mikey's head has grown while he was in his band, otherwise

you wouldn't have seen any improvements. But with the new head

shape, measurements are being all reconfigurated so its hard to tell

just exactly how much the had has grown. After my son Danny had

graduated from his band, his head circumference had dropped in

percentile.

I know I had written more in my original post to you, but I can't

remember it now. Good luck Debi, and keep us posted. In the

meantime, congrats Mikey on your round little noggin!

Hi Debi:

I'd just like to agree with what some of the other replies have

said! IF you feel Mikey could still get more improvement in his

band, then talk it over with your orthotist. As long as his band is

still fitting him, then why not keep going with it? He's still young

enuf to get addt'l improvement.

After our neuro. wrote Abby the RX for her STARband we didn't see

him again until we had problems with the band & we needed a new RX

for a DOCband, then after she had her DOCband we never saw him

again. So it is quite common for the orthotist AND the parent to

know when the child should graduate :)

Let us know what you decide to do. Good luck, it's not an easy

decision to make.
