Guest guest
- Welcome to the group. Did you see this article that was posted here a couple of weeks ago: http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/essex/index.ssf?/base/news- 0/101618702034255.xml I think these stinking doctors need to wake up! We were also told by the initial dr. who diagnosed Dane's tort and plagio that he didn't believe in helmets prior to 12 months. He said all the stuff we researched that said the best time for a helmet is much younger was all advertising campaigns from " the helmet people. " Where do you live? If you live near a CT, I would suggest getting a consultation where you can get a concrete measurement. If you don't live near one, I bet other places measure as well. We were told Dane had a very mild case and " should round out on his own. " He measured 17 cm off. We decided to go with the DOC Band as soon as we got those numbers. I called my doctor and said we needed the script. I got it without any probs. Dane is now 6 months old and has been in the band since 2/14. His flat spot is filling in very well. We are still waiting for the symettry to correct, but will probably need a second band for that. Good luck! You're certainly not alone! Guest guest
Welcome ! Tell the doctor ( i am assuming pediatritian) a Jury in New Jersey just awarded a family $2 million dollars for the doctor's negligence in not referring their son to a specialist before 10 months (yes 10 months!) for his plaigio because by then it was not enought time to treat. That ought to get him on the phone in a hurray to give you a referral. - Not that the specialist are all that help anyway..all the specialist we saw said the same wishy washy things " (Oh, I don't think she's that bad..will round out on own..give it time...the decision is up to you whether to band or not...) The truth is..We ended up DOC Banding at 8 months and am glad we did! Even though Jane has only been on the band for a week..she has adjusted wonderfully aside from the stinky helmet syndrome!! We of course are fighting the Insurance (what did call them? Turkeys?) at United Healthcare. Anyway..welcome ot the group! It is great and will be so much help in your journey. Start by perusing through the POLLS and FILEs..very interesting! welcome again, and Jane > Hello to all! > I've been a member of the Torticollis group for a while, but now I think > it's time (or more accurately, past time) to address my daughter's Plagio > issues. Guest guest
, Addendum to prior message..You mentioned your daughter is being treated for TORT. Is her PT evaluating her Plagio as well? Has she taken anything called an Anthropometric measurement? > Hello to all! > I've been a member of the Torticollis group for a while, but now I think > it's time (or more accurately, past time) to address my daughter's Plagio > issues. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! My neuro also wanted us to wait a month and try more aggressive repositioning. At that point my twins were 6 months and it was really difficult to reposition them. I would say in that time we saw little, if any at all, improvement in their head shapes. We eventually pushed to get the babies' banded, and I couldn't be more thrilled that we did so. If you are not comfortable with what your doctor says, confront him on it until you are comfortable. You are your babies best advocate, she can't speak up so you'll have to do it for her. Good luck to you and again, welcome to the group!!
