Guest guest
PANDAS, is an abbreviation for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. The term is used to describe a subset of children who have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and/or tic disorders such as Tourette's Syndrome, and in whom symptoms worsen following strep. infections such as " Strep throat " and Scarlet Fever. The children usually have dramatic, " overnight " onset of symptoms, including motor or vocal tics, obsessions, and/or compulsions. In addition to these symptoms, children may also become moody, irritable or show concerns about separating from parents or loved ones. This abrupt onset is generally preceeded by a Strep. throat infection. Hi Di, Now, Alyssa DID NOT have any OCD or tic disorders before. But while being treated for the strep, she started tapping her mouth area. She bunches up her fingers on a hand, like if someone took a string and strung it around all her fingers and tightened them and taps her chin, mouth area. She does it repeatedly, usually when she's not busy with her hands doing something. DRIVES ME NUTS!!!! I thought at first it was because of the numerous medications she was on to get rid of the strep. But even after it was finally gone, she still continued. Had her seen by a neurologist who mentioned it to me. Then she saw another neurologist who confirmed it. Weird, but she seems to get alot of weird stuff.
