Guest guest
Hi everyone ~ I'm a Vita-Mix newbie of sorts. Can you successfully grind a tablespoon of flaxseed in the regular Vita-Mix container or do I need to buy the dry container? Thanks!! Guest guest
The wet container will do flax, but you risk clouding the container (probably wouldn't matter if done on occasion, but could happen. You will need to do more than just a tablespoon at a time though-not enough in a tablespoon to hit the blades. I grind batches and store the ground meal in my freezer, so I have it on hand. If you plan to use the flax seed in a smoothie or batter, you can mix it right with your other ingredients in the Vitamix-no need to grind it separately. From: ClevrKiss@... <ClevrKiss@...>Subject: Re: Grinding Flaxseed? Guest guest
Not sure why you would want to grind just a tablespoon at the time. If you want them for smoothies, just put it in your favorite fruit/vegetables and let 'er rip. The flax seed will be there but no evidence in your mouth. If you want flax seed for other dishes, etc., you will need to grind much more, then store what you don't use in the fridge.JMO Bro & BillieFrom: "ClevrKiss@..." <ClevrKiss@...> Sent: Fri, June 24, 2011 11:20:59 AMSubject: Re: Grinding Flaxseed? Guest guest
Hey, Debbie. The minimum amount of anything that you can grind in the wet container is 4 oz. and I'm guessing it's a similar amount in the dry container. As others have mentioned, you can just include your seeds in whatever else you're blending if it's something "wet." If you're going to be using it "dry," you might want to think in terms of grinding larger amounts and investing in the dry container as well. -----Original Message----- From: ClevrKiss@... Guest guest
Hi Debbie and WELCOME TO THE VITAMIX ENTHUSIASTS Family (and the Vitamix Owner's Family too!)Thanks for your question (It looks like it was answered pretty well ;-) and keep asking questions - pretty soon, you'll be answering them!If flax seeds are the only seed or dry thing you are going to grind, you probably don't need a dry container. Are you a baker now? I usually say, "if you aren't a baker now, you won't become one just because you buy a dry container" ;-) But, if you bake, I think you would LOVE the ability to use home made flour in your recipes! Guest guest
Debbie, if you DO decide on a dry container (WONDERFUL to have if you like to have fresh flour), please remember to order through Lea Ann-she can get you a cheaper price and free shipping on one!
