Guest guest
I saw the show too. And she did look fantastic! She didn't even look like the same person. LOL! I don't know what you mean when you say " how can this be " though. That is how the body works. Eating less cals especially carbs will show results over time. And we don't really know how toned or how much loose skin she has. She was wearing a suit with pants. Regardless of how she did it or if she has loose skin, she has certainly improved her quality of life and her health. I also believe she still has a youthful metabolism and elasticity on her side. Isn't she still in her 20's? I think what we are doing here with BFL is because we want MORE than average to good results. BFL is more than what most people are willing to do for fitness. Even many people who " exercise " and work out with weights are not doing so in an organized or challenging way. They will see improvement over time but not the dramatic results of a program like BFL or other intensive weight training programs. Well that's my 2 cents! Guest guest
Hi Loretta, The heavier you are the faster you lose in the beginning, so her first 100 pounds probably fell off immediately. Also, when you say " 300 pounds in one year " it really does seem extreme, but that comes out to 25 pounds per month which is half of what most people normally lose when they really push. By the way, Bob Greene and other personal trainers are now saying that 3 lbs a week is an acceptable amount to lose per week without sacrificing muscle or safety vs the formerly suggested 1-2 pounds per week. So someone could lose about 144 pounds in a year which is amazing also. I personally know someone who lost 100 pounds in six months and they're now planning to enter a figure competition this May. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you're determined. Trina > I watched Oprah last night and 's daughter lost almost > 300 pounds in a year without surgery or drugs. She looked great! Guest guest
I also saw the show (one of the few Oprahs I get to see, since I'm usually at work at that time), and her weight loss just amazed me. I just wish she'd been more specific about how she did it. When Oprah asked her, she just replied, " You have to put your faith in a higher power. " That's all fine and dandy, but not all people are religious, and that statement is far too abstract to be helpful. I admire her for her weight loss, though; it obviously took tremendous strength and will power. I hope she maintains it. I know from experience that often that's harder than losing in the first place. Dani
Guest guest
Are you talking about Carnie ? Because, if so, she has gastic bypass surgery (stomach stapling). Guest guest
Altho Carnie was mentioned and she was in a short clip (looks great btw) this person on the show was Ivy whow is a songtress in her own right but also the daughter of famous jazz singer . And she lost 300 lbs in one year to take back her life again. How'd she do it? There's lots of info on the Oprah site (AfterTheShow segment is great - but basically she states she is a recovering sugar addict - cut out the sugars, white flour, and eats low glycemic fruits with a protein - you can read more about her and how to 'get past the pain' as Oprah says on the website at: http://www.oprah.com/tows/after/200211/tows_after_20021106.jhtml Wander around on the site, there is LOTS of info and good advice about weightloss and 'ggod karma' topics :-) <<joni>>
Guest guest
Previous message specifically stated the woman who lost 300 pounds was 's daughter(her name is Ivy), and she did not use surgery, diet pills, or anything besides correct eating, exercise, and positive thinking. Ivy is an African-American woman, Carnie is white. > Are you talking about Carnie ? Guest guest
Thanks for posting that info Joni, yes , nancy wilson's daughter, does post info on how she lost weight on Oprah's site. Ironically, her advice is just good old fashioned common sense, very simple, and to the point: eat right, exercise, and monitor addictive foods. She is truly an inspiration. @y..., jgrrl2 <no_reply@y...> wrote: > Altho Carnie was mentioned and she was in a short clip (looks > great btw) this person on the show was Ivy whow is a > songtress in her own right but also the daughter of famous jazz > singer . Guest guest
Trina and thanks for posting this info, if she can lose that much weight in a year, there is no excuse for me. Also, Trina I have also been reading more information that 3 lbs a week is considered acceptable, thanks for the reminder. When you break the poundage down monthly it does seem easier to grasp than 300 pounds a year. Guest guest
Thanks for clearing that up. I had no idea that Ivy was african american as I had not seen the show. I was just asking a question.
