Has he ever been checked for aspiration pneumonia? Micah had pneumonia like 5 times his first two years of life. I finally figured out it was aspiration pneumonica and took him to gastroenterologist. BINGO Once on the GERD medicines and he stayed much better. He doesn't even use them anymore though we constantly keep an eye out. Just a thought. Guest guest
My little guy (Ben,22mos.) has had bacterial pneumonia twice. At three months, it was double pneumonia likely to have followed an unidentified virus. It required a 10 day hospital stay. He was put on a ventilator upon arrival at the children's hospital. It was removed 3 days later only to find that he had to be revented a few hours later. He had to have ablood transfusion because of all the poking. It was a scary time...we almost lost him. The next time he had pneumonia, no hospital stay was necessary. Thank the Lord! I've heard that respiratory problems can be an issue because of a weaker cough...they are not as able to move the junk out. I've also heard that preemies have a higher risk of developing respiratory issues. Incidentally, Ben has a really nasty cough right now. I'm debating a trip to the doc as I write this. I try to avoid it if at all possible. The waiting room carries quite a risk this time of year. Ben was not approved for RSV vaccines this year. If he comes up with pneumonia again, the doc said he'll have to take action...I'm not sure what that meant. Happy New Year! Sheila > > I was wondering how many kids have trouble with this. Ben had pneumonnia last year and was in the hospital. However this year we have been to the ER twice. The first time he had bronchitis and seemed to be getting better. However as soon as he was down with the z-pack a day later he went back. Another fever, coughing uncontrollably etc. Is this common because until last year we have never had this issue at all. > Thanks, > M. > >
Guest guest
When Kaitlyn was 3 and 4 she ended up in the hospital every year with pneumonia or respiratory issues. Then for several years she stayed pretty healthy. This year she spent 9 days in the hospital with pneumonia again. The Doctor advised us to start breathing treatments right away if she showed any signs of trouble. He said she would be more susceptible since this latest bout. It seems with Kaitlyn that once she gets really sick she struggles more for awhile, like it takes her much longer to fully get her strength to fight off infection back to normal.
