Guest guest
I got this in email today. This video shows this product and its features. The Sun Oven is quite a bit more expensive, but I wondered how it compared as far as size, features, workmanship etc.to what we're looking at? Do you know? http://everydayfoodstorage.net/2011/06/06/sun-oven-class-part-one/food-storage-recipes Vickilynn HaycraftMicah 6:8http://www.realfoodliving.comhttp://www.blog.realfoodliving.com http://www.examiner.com/housewares-in-national/vickilynn-haycrafthttp://www.examiner.com/family-preparedness-in-national/vickilynn-haycraft http://www.getreadynetworkllc.com/bepreparedradio/?cat=
Guest guest
I’m not and I can’t answer that question but I saw that video yesterday. I wish they had part 2! There are a lot more brands of solar ovens than I had been aware of and a lot of people make their own with good results. I think it is so interesting! Guest guest
I am personally not a fan of the Global Sun oven, but many people do like it. I don't like that it has hinges on the inside-gets in the way of the cooking pots, and impossible to put in a cookie sheet to roast something like a whole pumpkin on-no way to get the sheet back out with food on it, trying to maneuver around the hinges. I also do not like the glass top, which is odd, since I am a huge fan of glass for other applications, and I shun plastic where and when possible. The sun oven is also considerable smaller inside, and does not allow for angling the oven like the Sport does. The Global was my first solar oven, and was almost enough to put me off of solar cooking. What I love about the Sport, is it is very simple, no hinges or parts to go wrong, and can be angled a couple of different ways. I also like that you don't HAVE to use the reflector, or have it in your way. I rarely use my reflector, I just keep it stored under the little laundry cart I keep my oven on (I keep my oven on my uncovered deck, and cover it with a grill cover when not in use) I have tried several ovens, including homemade, and have found the Sport to be the most effective, easy to use, and durable. As I said, I have been using mine daily since 2004-it has some scratches on the bottom inside, but other than that, it works and looks just as good as the day I got it. (the scratches are inevitable, I think, but I am a bit harder on things than perhaps others would be-doing things from a wheelchair often makes one "clunkier" than others) I am happy to look into wholesale buying for any other brands, but having tried most of them myself, I am confident in recommending the Sport. In the years I have been doing this, I only know of one person who was not satisfied with their oven, and it turned out to have a defect-the company promptly replaced it, and the owner then became a huge fan of it. What the video for the Global Sun oven says about saving electricity is SO true! I save not only by not running an electric oven, but since I cook outside, my kitchen stays MUCH cooler and I don't have to run my air conditioning as much! -who is heading out to the very sparse garden to see what is going in the solar sport today! I am thinking roasted veggies or stuffed peppers...From: Vickilynn H <realfoodliving@...>Subject: BRENDA - How does the SUN OVEN model compare? Guest guest
- I would love to have you share the plans. My husband is going to build me one and it would help to have some ideas for how to do that. The larger the better, would love to be able to use my cast iron pots and pans in it. Can send off list of course. Thank you for sharing!!! Vickey in Alaska > I have since purchased solar ovens for all of my family (which is how the wholesale club came about)  If I had more building skills, I would build a large permanent one in my garden! Lacking that, the Sport fits the bill nicely.  If anyone WANTS to build there own, I have several different sets of plans I am happy to share, and there are plenty more on the internet. I found that it was just as cost effective to buy the sport, since materials needed worked out to be about the same, but what fun it is to come up with ideas and follow them through. Unfortunately, I am better suited for kitchen gadgets than power tools...and I have the scars to prove it, lol > > >
