Guest guest
My son, Mac (almost 9) is scheduled to have his tonsils and adenoids removed on April 2. My daughter, Kit (5 yrs.) had hers taken out a month ago. Due to Kit's heart condition we went to an ENT specialist who did the surgery and Kit spent the night in the hospital. She did very well and probably didn't NEED the night in the hospital--she was eating and drinking within hours of the surgery and went back to school 5 days later and really could have gone sooner. Mac does not have any pre-existing health issues and our family ENT will be doing the surgery. He feels comfortable doing it on an outpatient basis at the surgery center. My question is...have any others had their tonsils and adenoids removed and NOT spent a night in the hospital? I know the recommendations are that kids with Ds do spend a night for observation for any post-op complications. I mentioned this to my doctor and he still didn't think an overnight would be needed as long as Mac was up, alert and eating and drinking before discharge. Any thoughts?? Should I insist he spend the night? I like and trust my doctor, but just want to make sure. Thanks. Jill
