I will be hosting a twelve step meeting next week. I will be preparing snacks....in gadgets. All fellow kitchen divas are welcome to attend. With platters.

This is the one I have:

http://www.amazon.com/Marcato-8308-Atlas-Grain-Mill/dp/B000UV492E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & s=home-garden & qid=1306950909 & sr=8-1

It rolls the grain into flakes.

Of course! A shiny red, gently used Vitamix 5200! I have ZERO worries of having to award it to anyone but myself :)

I'd still go for the Retsel or KoMo, neither of which is included in this test. Anyhow, these are manual; to the extent that I'm interested, it's only in electrics and the Retsel is cool because you can use it manually as well in a pinch.

Oh, I do love spätzle with cheese. I also LOVE gnocchi. Zabar's sells imported frozen gnocchi--very inexpensive and REALLY good. They're so easy to cook, too: dump into boiling water and wait for them to float. I had some for dinner with butter and fresh-grated (WITH MY HEALTH CRAFT KITCHEN MACHINE!!!) Reggiano. Yum!

By the way, I really shouldn't have said what I did about the Bosch blender-it is actually a nice attachment, but it is no Vitamix. You will enjoy your gadget in its entirety, I am sure-didn't mean to put it down.

I really don't have a full opinion, just knew I had read their site

before. I am interested in the Country LIving, but am not ready to

replace my electric mill as I hardly ever use it anyhow. Always open

to learn new ideas though.

No, I PROMISE to be fair! If anyone out there has more kitchen gadgets than I do, I will give it up. Little chance of that, lol. I have two kitchens, upstairs and down, and a "summer kitchen", which really simply means my gadgets have overflowed to outside the home. Bring it on, lol.

This might sound churlish but I can't be bothered making something that I can buy ready-made and imported for so cheap. :)

Spätzle, on the other hand...I can't get it fresh readily so maybe next time my Swiss friend goes home I'll ask her to look into a wooden device.

Trust me when I say I would GLADLY buy ready made...if it wasn't always cross contaminated with my allergens! As much as I LOVE to cook, I do tire of HAVING to make every single morsel from scratch. That is why I need gadgets, lovely gadgets!

Yes, and about 20 minutes ago, my daughter's boyfriend showed up with a truckload of LOVELY new kitchen cabinets to remodel the downstairs one with!! His dad does remodeling, and they are remodeling the kitchen in a 2 million dollar home-the owner GAVE him the cabinets, and he shared!!! I am stoked! These cabinets are gorgeous! The only thing that really stinks, is I am no longer able to get to my downstairs kitchen (not handicap accessible)...but my daughter will have an amazing kitchen when she moves downstairs! There just might be enough left over to "remodel" my summer kitchen. Cabinets on the patio, anyone? Why ever not...will call it "yard art" and make it a trend, right?

I always have the philosophy that, if I buy a quality gadget, I can

make that food over and over, while if I just buy the food pre-made,

I will have to buy it again (at ever increasing prices) the next

time I want it.

Maybe someday you can get one of those elevators for stairwells

which I see advertised on tv, so you can get down to your other

kitchen. On the other hand, it makes it easier for you daughter to

"hide" from Mom, as teens will do.

Hey -

I would have given up the Kitchenaid before the Bosch, I love my Bosch!!! Use it

many times a week.

However, should you choose to pass it on instead of finding it a new " mate " keep

in mind the attachments do not all fit interchangeably.

I spoke to about getting her " unwanteds " but then found out the

attachments from the compact do not fit the universal I have.

Hate to have someone get all excited and pay for shipping and all only to find

out it won't fit their model.

LOL, that is EXACTLY why I have these attachments! Right after I ordered my Compact, I got overly enthusiastic and started ordering attachments. I don't eat gnocchi often enough to justify a gnocchi maker plus the required ingredients are going to keep increasing in price, too, not to mention the cost of my time. In addition, the ones I make aren't going to be as good as the ones made in Italy (terroir and all that). In this case, ready-made is just too cheap to consider the alternative. However, I really don't have a source for good spätlze (my mom always bought Maggi), so a board might be a worthwhile investment.

Luckily, I have both the Compact AND the Universal. I have the meat grinder for both but I don’t have the pasta maker for either. So if you are selling your pasta maker I would be interested no matter which it fits. Actually, I don’t think they make a pasta maker for the Compact.
