Guest guest
Oh, my--OCD is REALLY awful. I had a relationship fall apart because his OCD finally just took over (he occasionally had to deal with some Tourette-type tics that he could suppress until he was alone as well). It runs in his dad's family although with different manifestations than his. He literally had no fingerprints from washing (just one of his manifestations). Re: Thickening Home Made Almond Milk - was - Smoothie Advice for Honey Thick Liquid Diet  Add to my difficulties in that my son is ADHD, Bipolar, OCD, and several more. When he was young he ate almost anything I put in front of him (except mushrooms) but when he turned teen, (and changed meds) he began to totally dislike almost all veggies (he will eat raw carrots and celery once in a while and a lettuce with dressing salad as long as I don't put tomatoes or other " weird " stuff in it). He often makes his own dinner because he does not like what I fix. I made brown rice last night because I was out of spaghetti and had marinara sauce and meatballs from Costco. He refused to put tomato sauce over rice, so ate meatballs over rice with orange sauce (full of sugar) from Costco. Refused the coleslaw I made, though sometimes he will eat that. These days I make an effort to make food he will eat a few days of the week and let him fix his own (often mac and cheese or pizza) the rest because if I don't let him eat a meal of what he wants, after we go to bed he will eat all sorts of strange stuff which are things I have bought for use in small amounts in stuff, such as an entire large jar of peanut butter, or a entire bag of marshmallows or chocolate chips or a entire month supply of corn chips I have purchased for my husbands lunches (husband weighs out his carb portion). I thought picky eaters grew out of it, but some don't. He outright refuses the fruit and veg smoothies, won't even taste them. I realize some of the problems are the meds, but not much I can do but try. Velda On 5/17/2011 10:40 AM, Lea Ann Savage wrote: Oi Vey! Guest guest
I agree with Lea Ann - thanks, Vickilynn for this info! I had some of the PGX on hand that I used to take a while back and then when Lea Ann brought it up, I started to take it again. It really is great stuff, and I am so very happy to not have to ration my pills like I have been also! On Tue, May 17, 2011 at 7:52 AM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote: AMAZING! and THANK YOU!!! Gluc powder sets up immediately in cold liquids and may clump if not whisked, or put in the VitaMix to disperse. A TINY bit goes a long way, more than xanthan, tapioca etc. And it carries no taste. The powder is derived from a plant (nothing added) in fact, it is the Konjac toor, and it is used to make noodles and candy in Asia. I add just a tiny bit to my protein shakes and it makes them thick and creamy and not release the thickening. It thickens even more when chilled after mixing. Start with the smallest amount possible, let sit to thicken and add more to desired consistency. You can read about it here:http://www.konjacfoods.com/product/1.htmI use it all the time and I consider it an essential for our pantry and long-term food storage. From: Robin <rsmallen@...>Subject: Smoothie Advice for Honey Thick Liquid Diet Date: Tuesday, May 17, 2011, 8:01 AM Looking for some advice on making smoothies for my husband who has dysphagia. He is able to eat pureed solid foods and liquids thickened to honey thickness only. He may be upgraded to nectar thick liquids later this week dependent on his MBS study. My VitaMix arrives today! I want to take protein rich smoothies to him in the rehab hospital which they've said is fine...as long as none of the ingredients are such that they melt in the mouth to a thin liquid consistency. Examples would be ice cream...or, I'm guessing, the ice in the smoothie. If so, I must thicken the smoothie with Thickit (which is kind of yukky stuff if you ask me). Does anybody have experience with this diet? Did you need to thicken due to the ice? When you drink these nice thick smoothies does it thin down in the mouth due to the ice? Thanks for any and all advice! Robin www.nanashouse.wordpress.com

Guest guest
Yes, but do you use the box with the yellow orange powder, exclusively? And leave out the butter? He does. I love a good mac and cheese made from scratch. The Velveeta shells and cheese with the foil packet of cheese sauce is not bad either. My Daddy made some of the best mac and cheese in my life. He always topped and baked it till brown and bubbly and I loved it. Guest guest
You can make a wonderful, quick and easy mac and cheese sauce in the VM by just heating a little milk (almond, rice, or nut milk is fine) shredded cheddar cheese, and a pinch of sea salt-buzz in VM until thick and creamy. Pour over mac (I use homemade rice pasta) This is great as is, or baked. I wouldn't touch the boxed stuff with a ten foot pole after having this preservative/chemical free, and MUCH easier version of cheese sauce. The VM makes it so velvety and rich. > > AMAZING! and THANK YOU!!! THIS IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT in the PGX > supplement that I take!!! Guest guest
I prefer to use a béchamel base; it's too gluey for me without the flour. On the other hand, I sometimes have egg fettucine with this outrageous outrageous cheese called crema gorgonzola (young gorgonzola layered with mascarpone) and I throw in some milk or cream to make it blend better. YUM. Guest guest
I use to think cheese sauce was no good unless it had flour, but after having to go gluten free, I learned to make adjustments.
