Guest guest
Well, for sure you're chopping them too long. At what speed are you chopping? Chopping vegetables with the Vitamix? Hi, I'm not doing something right when trying to chop peppers, onions, etc. I end up liquifying them. Should I be chopping one vegetable at a time since they are different consistencies? Should I add them via the lid as opposed to putting them directly in the Vitamix? Thanks for your help!

Guest guest
Hi there Laurie - have you had a chance to review my Salsa and my Chicken Salad recipes? I give a lot of tips / hints / information on dry chopping there. You do better to chop one veggie at a time - up to a cup is best. Yes, because they are different consistencies you need to chop longer (or faster) for things like carrots and for only a short time on variable speed #1 for things like peppers and onions. Use only variable speed one (or only a little bit higher if necessary - the higher the speed, the smaller the pieces - and more liquid). Adding them through the lid while the blades are already spinning is nice, but not necessary. I don't - I just use my tamper to get things to hit the blades faster… if you have a dry container - use that for dry chopping, but if not, no worries - I used my wet container to chop veggies for 3+ years and it did just fine. Guest guest
I tried chopping parsley. I put two bunches In and got liquid on the bottom and full leaves on the top so I turned the variable up so I got more liquid. Guess I need to practice more.Sent from my iPadOn May 21, 2011, at 5:09 PM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote: Hi there Laurie - have you had a chance to review my Salsa and my Chicken Salad recipes? Guest guest
Depending on what you need the veggies for, a wet chop might work better. Here is my youtube link of me " ricing " cauliflower-same concept works for wet chopping-then just drain well in a colander. > > > > Well, for sure you're chopping them too long. Guest guest
Two bunches of parsley is WAY more than 1 cup! Stringy things like parsley (and cilantro) are harder to chop. I always grab them by the stems, hold half a bunch over the container, and us scissors to cut the stems into little pieces, then let the variable speed #1 do its thing to chop it all some more, but if you don't do a pretty good job of getting the main stems cut into little pieces, stems will get wrapped around the blades.Hope this helps! Guest guest
Best to remove as much stem as possible because, as you noted, stringy stuff gets wrapped around the blade shaft. Even wheatgrass is processed less problematically if you cut it into smaller pieces before blending. Re: Chopping vegetables with the Vitamix? Two bunches of parsley is WAY more than 1 cup!
