Guest guest
I went to a raw cooking workshop and the raw almond meal was used for a dessert. I'll look for the recipe and post it. I figured out a good way to use it! I've been trying to make soy yogurt and, while it comes out OK, it's still way more "runny" than I like my yogurt. All of a sudden it dawned on me that I could put some of the left-over almond meal that I hadn't figured out what to do with into the yogurt and thicken it up. It does make it a little grainy, but I don't mind that, knowing it's almonds, near as much as if it was from the soybeans. Although.... I didn't double strain my soymilk the last time I made it for soy yogurt so maybe the graininess WAS from the soybeans! Anyway, then it dawned on me that I could also use the almond meal in my smoothies to thicken those too. That way I wouldn't have to use as much - or any - ice (I detest slushie-type drinks) AND it wouldn't "melt". So that's what I did tonight. Actually, the recipe I used didn't call for ice, it called for flax seed, but I used the almond meal instead. I'm going to start freezing the left-over almond meal and use it for both smoothies and in bread, muffins, etc. And imagine, one recipe that I found for almond milk said to throw what was left once you strained it OUT! The horrors! ;-) Peace,
Guest guest
To tell the truth, I never use strained nut milk in smoothies. In fact, I no longer even make such milk separately; I just dump everything into the container and blend away. Almond meal leftover from making almond milk.... Â I figured out a good way to use it! Guest guest
I made nut milk and I used it with frozen peaches and it made a delicious smoothie and I am slowly drying out the leftover almond paste to use as a flour, it is on a pizza pan in my oven with just the light on and I stir it every 10 hours til it is completly dried. then I will place in a sterile jar to use as a flour. This is my first time so I do not know yet how it will turn out , I believe it will be good. Guest guest
I use the almond milk for drinking too and I don't want that much " fiber " in my " milk " . It's easy enough to add the meal back in when appropriate. Plus, I have it to put into breads and muffins then too. > > To tell the truth, I never use strained nut milk in smoothies. Guest guest
, you can also use the almond (or other grain/nut meal or combo of them) as a base for some tasty protein bars. I mix in some dried fruit, grated carrot (or leftover pulp from juicing), seeds, etc. Then I just add enough raw yogurt and honey or agave nectar to make it all hold together. You can either make little patties, or roll it into a log and slice it (like slice and bake cookies) These are great as is, or WONDERFUL dehydrated until nice and chewy. I often freeze them, then can toss a few in to my purse when I am heading out. They thaw out in my purse and make a perfect snack. I sometimes add raw cocoa powder, berries, etc. From: new_sprouter <froglady@...>Subject: Re: Almond meal leftover from making almond milk.... Guest guest
I have no wall or space either, so I hung a small pot rack from the CEILING, lol-it holds a lot more than I ever expected it would! I put it above the far back wall of my broom closet sized kitchen so I wouldn't knock my head on it, and hung little S hooks on it to hold pots, spatulas, colanders, APRONS, etc. Good use of otherwise wasted space. I keep threatening to turn my living room into my kitchen, since it is wide open and we rarely use it, lol. Guest guest
I have a pot rack hanging over my stove for pots and pans and a large hook hanging beside my stove on the wall for aprons. I have to be the messiest cook in the world.....aprons are a necessity. And I DID turn our spare bedroom into a giant pantry. I am a kitchen gadget junky and I can a lot. I have hundreds of jars of home canned food to find a place for. I also dehydrate a lot. So my small kitchen runneth over. We raised our children in a much larger house with a basement but a few years ago we remodeled my grandmothers house and that is where we live now. I love it because of so many memories but it is small. A From: Berry Sent: Thursday, May 26, 2011 7:52 AM Subject: Re: Re: Almond meal leftover from making almond milk.... Guest guest
Unfortunately anywhere in my kitchen it would be a concussion hazard! They built my kitchen under a sloped portion of the house roof, which means the ceiling is lowered and I can touch it with my upstretched hand (I am 5 ft 6 in). I have always wanted to hang a pot rack, but just no where to put one. I never did like this kitchen, but it is the only part of the entire house I don't like, so I put up with it.
