Hello,

I have had a VitaMix for a few weeks now and am really enjoying it and all the great posts here -and now I could use some advice. I attempted to make vanilla ice cream but the consistency was too runny - I am wondering if this means I need more or less ice? It's hard to measure cups of ice. I had great success with the peach soy sherbert the other week though. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks - so it looks like from this that I should really have used 3 cups of

ice? The recipe in the book calls for 4, but I guess I'll try 3 next time and

see how that goes.

You are welcome!3 cups of ice depending on the size of the cubes, can have a lot of air space, so sometimes you may need more. Did it freeze well? If it turned out too runny, I'm not sure that you need less. Can you send me the recipe you used and I'll look it over to see if I can trouble shoot?

Well I looked more closely at the recipe (from the VitaMix recipe book that

comes with the blender) and it does say that if it is " the consistency of a

milkshake " to firm it up by adding another cup of ice. Didn't notice that

before, but I guess I'll try that next time!

No less than 25% non-frozen ingredients to 75% frozen, frozen

ingredients placed at the top of the container.

I think one of the challenges in making ice cream, is the learning

process for running the VM just the right amount of time and the

ability to recognize that pillow effect when it is just right. I

know at first I ended up running a bit too long and it was softer

than i liked. Like so many other things, it is a learning process

but most of the results will in the end be edible. LOL

Be sure to watch Lea Ann's videos. I have had a VM for over 25 years and

learned how to perfect my ice cream by watching her technique.
