Guest guest
Hi, Dyan! If you don't like pineapple, either ignore the pineapple recipes or substitute something you know that you'll like. I noticed that you're already thinking in terms of tweaking the smoothie you tried--good for you! That's the right way to look at being a Vitamix user--customizing recipes to suit you and yours. Most of them aren't written in stone so by all means, have some fun! Just make sure to get into the habit of putting frozen and hard ingredients at the top of the container for smoothies. And welcome! Hello and new Vitamix owner I've been reading your messages for about a week now, but my Vitamix just arrived yesterday. So I wanted to say 'hello'! For my first effort, I made the triple berry smoothie that's in the recipie book. While it has lots of potential, I have to admit that it didn't knock my socks off. BUT with more yogurt and a little less fruit (so I get a creamer taste), I can sure see that one beeing a hit. I also have to remember that vanilla store-bought yogurt has sweeteners whereas my homemade yogurt does not. But a touch of added sugar will fix that right up. And tonight I made the strawberry lemonade recipie that was floating around last week............ THAT was wonderful!!!!! One quick question. I don't like pinapple, but I see that it's in a lot of recipies. Is there a good substitute? If not, can't I just leave it out? ..
Guest guest
WELCOME and thanks for sharing!Berries don't have a lot of flavor (to me) and it can take a bit of technique to get rid of all of the seeds. That being said, berries are really good for you. I've made peace with the fact that berries don't have a lot of flavor - I've gotten used to the flavorless berry drinks :-)Feel free to leave pineapple out - that is the great thing about your Vitamix - you can make whatever you like any way you like it! I'd leave it up to your taste buds to determine what works best for you taste wise as a substitute. Guest guest
It kinda depends on your source, I think. The Cascadian Farm strawberries are expensive but MUCH tastier than, say, Birds Eye or supermarket brands and Wyman's frozen wild blueberries are VERY flavorful. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with the results made with these two brands and my guess is that their frozen mixed berries would be good, too. Guest guest
The reason many berries have no flavor, is that they are grown out of season in hot houses-no time and wrong conditions to get the flavors developed. Lea Ann, you should come for a visit when my berries are in their full glory in my garden-you won't ever bother with a store bought berry again! Wild berries are super easy to grow, pretty much anywhere. The insipid berries sold in stores are rushed through their growth, and rarely have time to develop any flavor-WAY different ball game with home grown, trust me! (biggest battle is keeping the birds and squirrels from eating them all before picking-BUT, learn to listen to the birds-when they start flocking at the berry patch, it is TIME to pick. If the birds are showing no interest in them, humans shouldn't either. The birds KNOW when they are ripe and perfect. Best to listen to nature! Guest guest
I love berries and have blueberries almost every day. The Wymen's wild berries are yummy. I prefer most berries frozen over fresh because to me they do have more flavor. My least favorite berry is strawberry but I do love them in drinks or zapped in the microwave with a bit of sugar and liquor over ice cream or a slice of cake. blueberries I put in Fage yogurt along with a spoonful of wild blueberry jam. That's better than ice cream.TerrySent from my iPadOn Apr 16, 2011, at 10:25 PM, <kareningotham@...> wrote: It kinda depends on your source, I think. Guest guest
I think that's very true....... that the 'homegrown' stuff tastes MUCH better. Personally, I love berries of all sorts and find they have plenty of flavor. But I also grew up with a strawberry patch and blackberry bushes. There are few things better in life than fresh picked berries. Btw, the same holds true for tomatoes. REAL tomatoes, homegrown and left to rippen as nature intended, are juicy and wonderful. The stuff in the store is flavorless and yuck.
