patty,

Ben usually has a sinus infection when this happens however he has no drainage

from his nose. He has several allergies, dust, mold, trees, grass etc... After

being on Augmentin for just 3 days his eyes look so much better. We also use

Patanol also.

We have also used the sinus rinse with him but your child has to be able to do

it. You blow out while you spray the saltwater through the sinuses and it

cleans them out big time. We do it over the sink. Ben is 14.

Hi Jill, I live in Ohio, so we may well be sharing the same pollens/whatever it

is.

That's what gets me too, I mentioned has mold/dust mite allergies, but

this has never happened with his eyes before. Dr. said if it is occuring now, it

is most likely grass pollen allergy - which he did NOT test allergic too (we did

the same needle jabs all over the back too).

Here is the easiest way to put the eye drops in:

have your son lay on a couch or whatever, with his head tilted back slightly.

Tell him to close his eyes. Then put the drop in the inside corner of each eye

(or do one at a time). Then, when he opens his eyes, they will hopefully slide

right in - sometimes my aim is off and they go down his cheek, but this works

pretty good. At first, would have nothing to do with this. But his eyes

hurt so much, and I think he would've tried almost anything. And he really did

feel relief that first time.

Oh, put the drops in the fridge too, that may help.

My 8 year old son's eyes have been TERRIBLE for about the last 10 days/2 weeks

also. He had the allergy testing done about a year ago where they test for

soooo many things with those needle panels and it showed he had no allergies!

But there must be something in our central Illinois air right now that is

driving his eyes wild. They are so red and he does not tolerate drops very

well. Do you have any " tricks " to getting the eye drops in your son's eyes?!

We did the over the counter allergy eye drops for a while but they do virtually

nothing. We've had Patanol also, but we need something different now.

I also forgot, Ben has some eczema on his eyelid and below and looked really

sore. The Dr. gave me some Elidel cream to put on the upper lid and lower.

This cleared it up right away./ She said that it was a allergic eczema due to

his allergies. I don' t know if you have seen this or not. We live in Indiana

and I know our pollen has been off the wall.

Let us know what you find out.

Off Topic: Allergic Eyes?

Hi all,

I am stumped about how to help my 8 year old son with his eyes. They

have been bothering him for over a week now - they are red, puffy and

he says it feels like there's something in them, and when he blinks,

he says they " feel like they're on fire. " I took him to the dr

Tuesday, and he said has " allergic eyes " , and gave us two

different eye drops to try - Zatidor and Patanol. The zatidor helped

the first time, but since, he still complains that his eyes hurt.

An allergy doctor tested him this past October, his most significant

allergies are to mold and dust.

Does anyone have know of anything else I can try?

Oh my gosh, ! I think your story could warn people about the havoc

allergies can wreak in your life if they are not controlled! I don't want to

sound too kidding about it though - this is such misery you must obviously go

through, I am truly sorry to hear.

My brother has had bad allergies all his life, he has done the shots, but I have

not ever been affected thankfully. But it makes it hard to know how to help

, cause I don't have experience with it. Thanks everyone for giving me

such great advice.

just about everything with allergies. The eyes have always been the worst part

for me as they would usually swell shut. For immediate relief I would have to

sit with washcloths on them. You look bad after but it takes out the itching. I

tried all the meds and nothing works for me. I have also had 2 sinus surgeries

because of allergies causing problems. ( I was scheduled for another when

surprise, you're pregnant! ) Anyways, I tried shots starting last year and they

have been a true life saver for me. For the first time I can actually go

outside. We went camping for the first time last year where as I did not have to

sit wiht rags on my eyes. They also gave me a kenalog shot to sick start the

shots. I don't know if kids can get those or not. I have been through allergy

testing 3 times in my life and can tell you that the last time it included 300

injections under the skin on my arms. It took the

longest to perform, but the results were different than the back testing. I

think it is more thorough and gives the doc an exact tolerance level that you

have so they don't kill you with too much in your shot. At that time they tested

me for 33 things and I was allergic to all 33. It's 2 shots a week, but after

some time you don't even get phased by it. The docs say that if I had had these

when I was a kid I would have the sinus damage that I have. Just my story...

, mom to Myah 6 DS, Shianne 2, and baby due in 6 weeks! (finally!)
