Guest guest
_____ From: Green, D. (CDC/NIOSH/DSR) Sent: Friday, March 30, 2007 5:49 PM Subject: DS Golf Tournament in South Carolina I am writing to Sharon on behalf of the group. Has a date been set for the tournament near Myrtle Beach for August (mentioned in the email below)? Thanks, Jim Even bigger news!!! Okay, I posted about our new support group last week. Now, I have some huge news. My hubby, Mike, works for International Paper. The president of our local group, her hubby also works for IP. In fact, she gave birth to her dd with DS, a week after they moved here. Anyway, every year IP here sponsors a golf tournament to benefit a charity. For the last 5 years or so, the beneficiary has been the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Well, the employee committee was looking for a new direction to go, specifically where the money raised would stay here. Our group was approached about being considered for this. Thursday Diane and I, along with a pediatric PT that is on our board, gave a presentation to the committee about DS, our kids, our group, our visions for the future, etc.. And, we were chosen as the focus for next year's tournament!!! We are beyond excited. The money we will receive from this tournament will be well into the thousands, and will jump start us on achieving the goals we are setting for our group. To top it off, Diane called Burke's group, and they have now agreed to come and appear. Tentatively we are planning a silent auction, concert and dance Friday night, with the tournament on Saturday. Because this tournament is an already established event, many of the other sponsorships are already in place. The date is not exactly firm, but it will be in August, 2007. We are going to be looking at other things to go along with this. The tournament is held every year at the Caledonia Golf Course. This course is on the Waccamaw River in Pawleys Island, SC, and it has to be the most gorgeous setting I have seen. It's sister course is across the street, and we will most likely be using both courses. Here is the website to the courses <file://www.fishclub.com/> www.fishclub.com/ Anyway, we have a lot of work to do, but we also have a lot of eager volunteers. When we have the firm date I will let you know. What would be more fun that a long weekend at the beach, and a good cause at that?!?!?!? Thought you would be interested. I will send more info along when we have it. Sharon H. Mom to , (15, DS) and , (11) South Carolina " Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Guest guest
Oh my goodness, I am so glad you asked. Yes!! The golf tournament is Saturday, August 18th, The night before, Friday, August 17th, we are having a dance/concert with Chris Burke and the DeMasi brothers, and a local band that plays beach music, called Customs 4 plus 2 (this band is great). In the local band, one of the members has a son with DS, and another has a grandson with DS. We have gotten special room rates a 3 local hotels. Things are going well in preparation for these events. Lots of work, but well worth it. So if anyone would like to come to the beach for a weekend in August, come on! We would love to have you! More info at www.gsdss.net Sharon H.
