Please go to the Web-Page below to see >a short version of Dr. Kelley's Metabolic Types Chart. Question: Is there a simple test one can take (self-test) to determine what category one fits in? Personally, I believe most of this is observational only, and that the metabolism types would change as you changed your diet. In other words, if someone who eats a lot of meat suddenly stopped, and went on a total fruit diet, yes they would feel horrible, and yes, they would feel MUCH better when going back to meat...but if they start SLOWLY, they can wean themselves off of meat, with little or no consequence, and feel fine. While there are always exceptions to the rule, I do not believe that this concept (permanent metabolism labeling) is valid, except maybe as a guideline to use for TRANSITIONAL diets, or in other words, making dietary changes of a permanent nature. It has been shown time and again that metabolism is very profoundly affected by diet. Is this issue addressed by Dr Kelley? Marcus and interested others, Hi! Dr. Kelley's Self-Test is quite lengthy (85 pgs.-questionnaire). I've seen several other people's shortened versions, which might be a quicker way to find our Metabolic Type. They might be worth comparing with the original Dr. Kelley's Self-Test. I have a copy of the original and at least two shortened versions. I remember that when I took Dr. Kelley's Self-Test about 20 years ago, I was only about 1/4 of the way through the questions, when I definitely noticed a very strong pattern towards a particular Metabolic Type at that time. I believe that some of us can change our Metabolic Type, but there are REAL limitations, which can vary with each individual, depending on our genetic heritage and what diet we ate, while growing up. Whatever the case, doing the test will definitely help us to fine-tune our diet! There is research, but then our own common sense, that tells us that people in other lands would have to eat different diets. That diet could be as diverse as the Eskimo, who eats about 10 pounds of meat per day along with emormous amounts of saturated fats to the East Indian, who basically eats only vegetables. We might say to the Eskimos, " You should eat more vegetables to get a balanced diet, so that you can be really healthy! " But would we be right in our thinking by doing that? Or say, " You should do a detox program and then SLOWLY start eating more vegetables " . But then we would see, if we really looked at the Eskimos, that they have shown NO evidence whatsoever for centuries of having Cancer or Cardiovascular diseases! The Eskimos have to live in an extremely cold climate, thus having to develop a genetic need for high protein and high fat, so that natural adaptation had to occur in order for them to SURVIVE the bitter COLD!! Maybe this is an extreme example, but we could take a look at other climates and soil conditions, and we would still come to the same conclusion again, that we really do have different Metabolic Types. I see that there are other posts on this topic, so I'll move on and try to answer them also to the best of my ability. This is a very important subject and it will probably take a little while to completely understand it! Tom

Yes. I bought the book when it was available, but while my daughter was watching my month-old puppies, they somehow managed to poop on the book. So, I wrapped it in saran wrap & have always intended typing the questions into a computer for my family. My sister is a typist, and I recently realized if I mask & glove myself while I put the pages in plastic protector sheets & seal them, I can ask my sister for the favor. jim Hi Jim! I would really like to see that questionnaire typed up, but I also know, that I'm too SLOW of a typist to be able to get it done in a reasonable amount of time! I would appreciate it very much myself, if your sister would type it up! I'm wondering though, is there enough interest from the List to make such a chore worthwhile? I'll make copies of any pages, that are unreadable for your sister, if need be. OK? Tom

Is this issue addressed by Dr > Kelley? Yes, but I feel you miss the point about metabolic type, . Sure, all those things you say are true, but it seems to me, and this is what the Kelley test is about, that each of our bodies has certain things it should or should not consume. Period. Regardless of diet. Some people can't handle milk. As with blood type, it is not dietary. It is the chemistry of our individual bodies. We are all like snowflakes, no two the same. At least, that's my opinion. jim -- jim@... http://www.doorway.to/madscience http://www.doorway.to/poetry ICQ:16531148 amicus certus in re incerta

I understand...personally, I believe that we are all more alike than different, and that while some people may actually have real, genetic allergies to certain foods or substances (like people who die from one bee sting), most of them are simply due to poor diet. There have been too many cases of food allergies completely disappearing after someone completes a thorough cleansing program. The biggest problem with this fact is that most people do not complete the program...they detox for a week or a month, then return to their old ways. Yes, if someone doesn't want to thoroughly cleanse their bodies, then they would probably benefit greatly from makeing certain dietary adjustments...I'm a purist though, and guess I always will be. I just can't see The Creator (or Nature, for the spiritually impaired) making it so complicated - Marcus

The book has been out of print for about 20 years. Kelley didn't like the fact that people with serious ilnesses were using it to diagnose themself without a professional assist. jim -- jim@... http://www.doorway.to/madscience http://www.doorway.to/poetry ICQ:16531148 amicus certus in re incerta
Guest guest
Ok Gang - I am an extremely fast typist - I will volunteer to type it up for the whole group if you can wait until Christmas or New Years for me to type it. I work a part-time job during the Christmas season so it will be the week after Christmas before I could get started. I was in engineering for 20 years and my average spec book was 300 pages - I would put together 2 - 3 of those in a given week. Now granted alot of that was cut and paste, but sometimes not. So whoever has it - send me a private email & I'll give you my address to mail it to. two cents, jeannine

Money is very tight for me, so that I can't afford to get copies made and sent of this manual right now, but probably will be able to do it by the time, that you're ready to type it. But then, I'm wondering if Jim is going to get his sister to type it or what (?). We'll probably find out soon enough. Tom
