Guest guest
PLEASE don't use the paint strainers-they are not food grade, and have been stored around who-knows-what chemicals and paint-NOT something you want around your food! There is a link for some inexpensive food grade ones on ebay in the files section, or you can just use unbleached cheesecloth available pretty much anywhere. I make my own nutmilk bags with unbleached hemp or muslin fabric. You can also use a coffee filter, though they are not as efficient. From: new_sprouter <froglady@...>Subject: Nut bags... Date: Sunday, April 24, 2011, 1:10 AM for straining after making things like almond and soy milk. Where do people get theirs and how much are they? The reason I ask is because I was getting ready to order one and pay quite a bit for one - I think the one I was looking at online was $10 or $12. Then someone told me that the paint strainers that they sell in Home Depot and Lowes are exactly the same thing, they just don't have a draw string, they have elastic (to hold them on the paint can). I went to Home Depot and I found the ones that fit a gallon can of paint in a pack of 2 for less than $5.00 (might even have been less than $3). I've been using the first one for a few months now. The elastic has come away on one side but it still works great. I put it over a large plastic container that I seem to have lost the lid for and is now my "official soy milk-straining container". Just thought this might help someone if they either can't find a "nut bag" or don't want to pay that much for one.
