Fats are digested slowly and prevent hunger from recurring for as long as 5 to 8 hours after a meal, whereas proteins and carbohydrates are digested in 2 to 5 hours and hunger recurs much sooner, encouraging overeating. " >What about Chia and Pumpkin? Here's the skinny..I mean fat...on chia and pumpkin: Chia......30% omega 3......40% omega 6..........0% omega 9 Pumpkin...0-15% omega 3....42-57% omega 6.......34% omega 9 (Pumpkin is the only oil out of 33 listed that hedges on the EFA amounts) > Is this the 'high protein' diet my dad lost so much > weight on a few years ago, but then decided after some > serious discussions with his doctor was too dangerous? > > Would appreciate a little more info on this before I > go out and spend more money on another book. The ketogenic diet is actually a high fat diet, with half to two thirds the amount of protein as fat. According to Dr. Atkins, many doctors confuse diabetic ketoacidosis with 'benign dietary ketosis', so my guess is the keto diet is the one your dad was on. It's possible he was on the Sears diet (from the book 'The Zone') which is high protein, although that diet is a fairly recently developed one. I've read mixed reports about The Zone. I personally think Dr. Atkins diet is the best by far. I've read nothing but good things about it. People really do lose weight on his diet, easily and pleasurably. And his book has the clearest explanation of ketosis I've come across. It's been on the NY Best Sellers List forever - I think because the diet just WORKS. It's in paperback now, so you can get it cheap.) I think 'Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill' by Udo Erasmus is the perfect compliment to Atkins' book. It's not as cheap or easy to find, though the Wholefoods Market near us carries it. If your local healthfood store doesn't carry it, you should be able to order it from them. These two books have become a Godsend to those of us who are dealing with seizures and are fed up with the deadly deceptive farce known as epileptic medicine. If I sound angry it's for good reason. The drug was on for four years (tegretol/carbamazepine) has caused brain atrophy, which a recent MRI has proven. I've watched her go from being a talkative, bright and funny child to struggling to recall words, talking in a slow monotone, poor memory, her IQ dropped from 120 to 80. This hasn't improved since removing the drug in Feb, although her spirit *was* finally freed, so she's certainly happier now. The changes are profound and I'm mad as hell about it. (at the time was put on tegretol at Boston Childrens Hospital in Feb 94, after being taken there following a grand mal seizure, I was looking into the Institute For Human Potential, which treats seizures with diet and excercise [until that point she was having petit mals]. When I informed the neuro of this, she sent a social worker up to warn me that if I did not 'comply' with the drug treatment, they may have to 'take action'!!!!) Oooooh!! I'd love to forcefeed these neuros their own medicine and see how THEY like it!!! It's just so horrible - and many children are far worse off than . They start them on phenobarbital as babies [following vaccine injury and resulting seizures] so the retardation that results is less obviously linked to the drug...not that I'm saying this is on PURPOSE, mind you..willful ignorance maybe...I mean, they can't ALL be evil, right?) This may sound paranoid, but I can't help but wonder just what a boon epilepsy is for brain researchers...an endless supply of little brains to play with. And I can't help but wonder what part vaccines play in this. When I think of who BENEFITS from this travesty, well, you know... I'm on a ketogenic diet list with parents of children of seizures and I'd estimate that about 80% of these children developed seizures following vaccination - what they call 'idiopathic epilepsy'. HAH!!! So these babies are further injured with seizure drugs, some of them are on as many as 5 drugs at once, many are on two or more. Some of them die from the drugs and ALL of them have been harmed by them. If it weren't for the ketogenic diet, the death count would be even higher. (poor neuropathologists must be disappointed) And to think this diet has been an option all along [the BEST option too, because it's TWICE as effective as the drugs, WITHOUT the side effects] but kept hidden from us until Jim Abrahams let the FAT out of the bag three years ago. GRRRRRR!!!!!!!! Thank God there IS hope though. Apparently HBOT can be very helpful in restoring cognitive function, by flushing out the dead tissue, helping oxygen get to the 'idling neurons' that surround it. Rodriquez has helped me tremendously in this direction. She's posted some GREAT information and graciously offered to help us in any way she can. Well, sorry to ramble again..I can't seem to help myself! I hope this helps, . (and four cups of coffee)
Guest guest
, Thanks again for the thorough information, as well as the amount. I saw a t/v. program on this diet a year or so ago. The program followed one young boy, from seizures, to being taken out the hospital by his mom, to the diet, to being seizure free. A very powerful show on many levels. Did you see it? I got literature on the diet after the show, and it said the diet is only effective in children. In adults it doesn't seem to work. Also, the child generally only has to be on it for a few years. Would you comment? (Only after another cup of coffee, of course...) Vilik At 01:16 PM 12/1/98 +0000, you wrote: >From: magmania <magmania@...> > >>1. Guest guest
>Well, sorry to ramble again..I can't seem to help myself! Hello , Thanks so much for your very informative post. It is heartbreaking to hear about what has happened with your daughter . I'd like to point out that your post here is as good an example as we're going to see of how politics are inseparable from therapy. Isolating therapy from politics will never serve the best interests of people, the therapy itself, health in general, or the truth. One of the things I appreciate about oxyplus is our free access to the verbotten territory. >Oooooh!! I'd love to forcefeed these neuros their own >medicine and see how THEY like it!!! " Thank you ! I've learned so much since Jim started the list. This in addition to the oxytherapy list has completely eliminated my fear of the big C. That in itself is a huge relief, since back in '60 I was vaccinated with the polio vaccine with simian monkey virus on the side..yum yum... so that raises my statistical risk, lucky me. (I also got polio from the vaccine, an added benny) It's so nice to speak our minds without fear of reprisal from others in deep denial about the allopathetic system, isn't it? )
