You're really lucky to have an MD who's also a homeopath. Certain conditions just don't respond to homeopathy and a physician who's both an allopath and a homeopath can readily choose the correct course of treatment.

Sort of stumped

Had a visit with my homeopath (also an MD) we were discussing my blood sugars.

They are slowly improving. (without meds) I was going pretty much low carb until I started the green smoothies. At first they didn't raise my blood sugars much, but then not sure why, but the BS's jumped up and after my smoothie, They are higher than they were at first. I am not on meds, am trying to beat this naturally. One thing that helps is to

Do my exercise videos (walking videos) after my smoothie and it brings it back down.

So I am stumped as to what to do. I don't want to give up my smoothies, but I want the BS to go down too, and the weight loss is sooooo slow. The smoothies are the biggest calories.

Just venting. I know every person is different. I have read where the green smoothies were helping peoples blood sugars.

I beat diabetes by walking 2 hrs after every meal, either outside or with videos, am insulin resistant still but that is changing too.lol It takes time and I do smoothies quite a bit. I would cut down on the amount of smoothie ingested and do the exercise, see if that helps, it should. Portion control is very important. Walking or tapes 2 hrs after made me loose 55lbs. That was not overnight but it wasn't real slow either. Can't remember exactly cause it was a couple years ago. Had meds at the beginning and was taken off of them pretty quick by the doctor.

Walk about one hour each time. Didn't time it out anymore than that and when I'm at work, I walk all the time so don't worry about that. Worry about my sugar going too low then so, have to carry snacks.lol So when I am home all day I do the a hour walk 2 hrs after every meal, that is 3 hrs walking total. My insulin receptors have awoken now though and I have to be careful not to overdue it, my sugar went down to 45 last night so, am taking snacks with me from now on.lol

Hey ,

Don't give up on the smoothies. I have been on meds 5 years for diabetes. I have been doing the smoothies for a month. I walk everyday for an hour. I have lost 10 lbs, and cut my meds in half. I am hoping to get completely off them by the end ot fhis year. Watch the fruit, bananas and grapes are full of sugar. I only use 1/2 banana in my smoothies. More greens less fruit, and 1/2 pack of stevia. The fruit juices are also full of sugar. I add water or extra ice instead of juice. Just try different things, and keep a journal of what you make, and how it affects blood sugars.

Today's smoothie

blender full of spinach

2 kiwi

1/2 banana

1 cup pineapple

1/2 pk stevia

made 2 smoothies, very good. My 10 year old ask for seconds. He has a one every morning.

My blood sugar was 143 about an hour later.

karen ki think a common issue is the fruit to veggie ratio. sugar is sugar be it natural or artificial.  perhaps for a person with normal chemistry (not pre or diabetic) this is of little consequence.  i think with a diabetic - the pancreas is out of whack and its a trial and error sort of thing.  dont give up.  i admire you for working so hard to stay off of medicine and do this naturally.  i personally do not have a sweet tooth so i tend to use a very little amount of fruit in proportion to my veggies.  im talking like 1 banana and a huge head of romaine ..or one handful of frozen mixed berries, 2 dates b/c the berries have such little sweetness and 1 head of romaine etc.  i think i would gag on a DAILY concoction of mostly fruit in such a large quantity of smoothie. i love fruit i might add but blended up there can be a lot of fruit in those smoothies.  this is just IMHO and i am aware of the key differences between artificial sugar and natural .. dont give up and wishing you all the best for your efforts!!

Hi , thanks for your reply. Can I ask why you specifically walked 2 hrs and not 1 hr? Is there a reason? Are you eating lower carb? Or just giving up white stuff? And do you eat just 3 times a day or 6 smaller meals? Thanks

Thanks Lori, I am not on meds. I am not eating junk food or desserts and limiting my meals too, and still not losing well, but to be honest, last month I am down 5.25, so can't complain. I do not add any fruit juices or sweetener to my smoothie. Just a bit of kefir, sometimes almond milk, fruit and ice I made them with berries yesterday instead of other fruit, and BS was like 126 or so 1 hr afterwards.

My body is telling me to NOT give them up. For one thing, my ph has improved. I think that is important too. I think I will keep up on it, try to increase the greens some more, and make sure and get at least 1 mile in afterwards.

Thanks Pam I wish I didn't have a sweet tooth. I have a niece that didn't care for any chocolate. I think wow, imagine that! Lol how nice that would be.

I do occasionally eat an 85% good quality dark choc now. It tastes good now that I am basically off sugar. (except the fruit in smoothie)

Staying locarb on veggies and fruit is tough.

Get a glycemic index chart and only use what's below 50 units.

Adjust from there.

I can get my blood sugars down with a 15 min walk video or even the 12 minute intense walk I do. Just a tip for someone that may not feel they have 3 hrs for walking in a day.

Try shorter walks with some umph in them and see what happens.

I enjoy the in home walking videos. You can use your arms, put umph in your walk or go easy if you want to.

Because I usually eat 4 hrs apart and don't want the sugar to go too low so, I'm not eating sooner and having too many meals. I eat breakfast-lunch-dinner and a snack at night to make sure I don't go too low during sleeping hours. If I exercise 1 hour afterwards I will go to low to soon and have to eat much sooner than I want too. I would be eating every two hours because exercise brings my sugar down below 70 and sometimes lower. From what I have studied they want the blood sugar down to normal within 3 to 4 hours so, that is what I go by as well. Used to eat nothing but low carb but, since I'm reversed and only pre diabetic now I do eat a white potato from time to time and it doesn't seem to bother me anymore but, is giving me potassium and other nutrients that are good for me (I do the skin too). Refused mashed potato and use sweet potato for that if I crave it. I am now vegetarian and still keep a good eye on my carbs. Most of the veggies are ok for me. I use whole wheat flour and sometime WW pastry flour. The white bleached flour is dangerous stuff for any diabetic from what I have studied for years and seen. Unbleached is ok but, doesn't really have any of the good stuff in it since they remove it (I call it fluff lol) No sense to me to eat anything that doesn't give a lot of nutrients to my body;.

The two hour exercise or walk has worked for me. My doctor is very impressed with my progress.

Can you think of anything particular that you felt helped more than anything else? Such as the exercise? The food you ate? Etc?

To be honest, I am a bit thankful I have this problem, or I'd be still eating sugar, and probably still gaining weight.
