Guest guest
I just had 2 pulled on my daughter right after Christmas. it was done in the dentist's office and they used Novocain and nitrous oxide.. She then had a top one come loose and it came out on its own. though we never found it and she may have swallowed it _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Connie Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2007 3:50 PM Subject: Tooth question Hi all, I know some messages were going around a while back about baby teeth coming in, so I have question about permanent teeth. Our son Ben is 8 and has been very slow about loosing baby teeth. Actually, only one has come out so far. And now, one of his lower permanent teeth has come in behind the baby tooth. It " erupted " in December. I started asking about the need to pull the baby tooth, and have found out this will cost over a thousand dollars-(not all covered by insurance.) Plus have to be done at the hospital, to put him out. I am wiggling the tooth every day, but it has nothing pushing on it, therefore it is pretty tight. Has anyone had to have the teeth pulled?Or just waited and had one come out on it's own? Thanks for any thoughts on the subject! Guest guest
has 4 adult teeth now- I knew 1 had fallen out. I got worried about the colour of his 4 front teeth- and the nurse said- dont panic they are his adult teeth. I never even saw gaps-or teeth or anything. I felt abut 2 inches tall-imagine not even noticing his teeth falling out! Tho he has mannaged to grind his teeth down-but dentist isnt worried about it yet. Aussie Leis- mum to 9 , Natasha 5 and 3. Guest guest
We have talked a lot about putting braces on Jasmine's teeth, but didn't think she'd be able to tolerate the tightening process every few weeks. If anyone has experience with this, I'd love to hear it, too. Toni-Mom to Jasmine ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Guest guest
We are right behind you. Ciarra is getting 7 teeth removed on April 2. Then a palate expander possibly, then braces. Please let us know how you do? Re: Tooth question Anyone's child with ds have braces on their teeth? We are getting ready for braces and I am absolutely dreading it!! Guest guest
Kaitlyn had a palate expander and then braces. She did really fine with both. The only trouble that we had was immediately following the placement of the expander. The orthodontist had given a talk about not getting food that would get caught on top and Kaitlyn took it heart and we couldn't get her to eat anything. This went on for about a week. I was worried but, when she got hungry enough she ate. After that, no complaining when we tightened anything. It can be difficult to tighten the expander. You will have to do that, showed me that my fine motor skills not much to write home about. When all of Kailtyn's permanent teeth come in we will need to put the braces back on. Right now she has a wire retainer in place to hold the work we did previously. Several of her friends in school and her brother also had braces on at the time, so she was just one of the crowd. I think that was a good thing. However, Kaitlyn has always been great in the dentist chair. Better than the boys actually. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of karriemom@... Guest guest
Toni, Not with braces, but with a palate expander and cemented in retainer. It has taken some patience on both the orthodontist part and ours (and s...lol), but starting out slow. Going to the ortho and watching the other kids laying in the chairs and getting worked on...then him sitting/laying in the chair and having the ortho/assistant " count his teeth " , then putting instruments in and moving them around, blowing air/water...after a few times, we were ready to actually do some work. Now over the past year, he has had impressions done three times (probably the worst of all of it!), a palate expander put in...turned twice a day for a few weeks...left in for 6 months...taken out...permanent archwire put in to hold the open space...repairs done on that about 5 times where they have had to basically start over some times...he is now a pro. I am not afraid of braces anymore. We have to talk about it...prep him...bribe him. He also likes to pretend he is one of his older sibs or a superhero...he is Spiderman a lot. The staff has been great. So, if you find an orthodontist who either works with kids with Sp. needs (ours hadn't before, but did all my other kids), or one who is willing, then you should be good to go. Hygiene has been our concern with the braces, but we are going to go for it when all of his permanent teeth are in. PLEASE let me know how it goes. we are probably still a couple of years away from starting. I am anxious to hear other people's experience with this.
