Also (read below), those minerals do not significantly affect the sodium levels contained in the samples compared. Some NaCl is necessary for health but there's no doubt whatsoever that it raises blood pressure (which is why, on the few occasions/year that I give blood, I not only eat beforehand but make sure that the food is somewhat salty--revolting but necessary if I'm going to avoid passing out). A number of people, my mother among them, are sensitive enough to NaCl--of any stripe--that it raises their BP significantly and has to be avoided. Perhaps coming from a city that's literally built on a salt mine has had some effect on my way of thinking but I truly believe that anyone who starts waxing lyrical about the health benefits of this salt over that one is probably hawking the "this" and is being irresponsible to those who should avoid salt and who, ironically, are probably the ones who really crave it and want to be told by an "expert" that there's a way around non-consumption. Avoiding NaCl probably isn't going to correct hypertension (I'm sure there are underlying causes) but its consumption can certainly exacerbate it. Guest guest
Sea Salt creates a different (and more beneficial) ph than processed salt. The Water Cure books teach almost as much about sea salt vs processed salt as they do about how water affects the body. I got my information on the ph of Sea Salt vs. processed salt from those books. Apparently you can do a simple test placing equal amounts of table salt and sea salt in equal amounts of distilled water and test the ph and they will be different. The trace minerals (even though they are negligible) have a big effect on how the salt behaves in our bodies.Increasing salt (either table or sea) without increasing your water intake will most certainly upset the delicate balance that good health requires. Too often high BP is a function of dehydration rather than too much salt in the diet, but a surprising number of people refuse to come close to drinking the amount of water that is necessary for optimum health. Guest guest
This is a great first step. In the Water Cure books (which I highly recommend you get at least one of them because there is so much more to it than just increasing your water intake and you really should read the book or at minimum study the Water Cure website) they recommend drinking your water between meals so that you don't dilute your digestive juices which should be concentrated in order to digest the food of a meal.I suggest that you get some good sea salt, a mason jar, and some good water. Fill the mason jar with as much water as you think you can take and drink it first thing when you wake up. Wait at least an hour after breakfast and do it again. At least a half hour before lunch do it again, and half an hour before dinner do it again. Eventually you will be able to fill those mason jars to the top. That wouldn't be enough for all people (depending on their weight) but 4, 3.5 cup mason jars is more water than most adults drink. Guest guest
Will try all this, thank you. Most of my food is organic and unprocessed but, can't always get it all that way unfortunately. Waiting impatiently for whole foods to open up here next Spring and this Spring I have found a farm that does organic and sells locally so, can't wait for them to open.lol -- Sea Salt - was - Reduce high blood pressure smoothie Hello , I recommend that you buy one of the "Water Cure" books and Dr. Brownstein's book, "Iodine, Why You Need It Why You Can't Live Without It" and make up your own mind whether you think the information about the benefits of Sea Salt is valid. You can find a lot of the information online, but it isn't as thorough in explaining why they come to the conclusions they do. In the books they reference studies and case histories and reasons for their recommendations. Sodium, Potassium, and Water are all needed to maintain the delicate balance of inter and extra cellular fluids necessary for optimum health. I "sea" salt my food liberally, but I also drink nearly 4 quarts of water a day… I prefer the more highly colored sea salts that you get at health food stores to sea salt that is all white. I also get my trace minerals from fulvic acid. http://www.supremefulvic.com/documents/html/fulvic_acid.php?gclid=CJSTzfvQkqgCFYg32god51H3Cg Supplemental Trace Minerals are necessary for health because our soil no longer contains trace minerals and we are no longer getting trace minerals from our foods. Adding Trace Minerals to my diet had the most "felt" benefit of any supplement I've ever added to my regime. You could never get the amount of trace minerals that you need just from Sea Salt. Since we can no longer get them from our foods… supplementing is necessary. (Unless of course all of your food is organic and unprocessed). Guest guest
As strange as it may seem if a diabetic or pre-diabetic ingests anything in-between meals the body thinks it's food and the blood sugar rises, and it seems like dietician that told me about that knew what she was talking about. I drank some water in-between and took a sugar test, went up to 252 and it was low before that. Do know sometimes different diabetics or insulin resistant people (me) react differently to different things, so this may not be true for everyone. Bad-Bad insulin resistance and diabetes.lol Able to do fruit smoothies without a problem and apparently some can't. Able to eat raw honey in small amounts and some can't although I only did it a bit as an experiment.lol Because I reversed the diabetes I can now eat White potato and I do once in a while because it's good for me, a lot of diabetics can't eat them. Guest guest
Y'know, I really doubt that anyone here would do this but maybe it bears mentioning. Several years ago, a radio station ran a contest with a prize of a popular video game system. Contestants were asked to come to the station and compete against each other to see who could drink the most water in the shortest period of time and, well, I just found a link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16614865/ns/us_news-life/ . I literally cried when I heard this and I never forgot it. Please, if you're going to drink a lot of water, make sure you have access to the means of relieving your bladder. I realize this probably sounds stupid but people can engage in too much of a good thing with disastrous results. Guest guest
I was surprised tonight to discover that my Celtic sea salt (a really finely ground variety) has 390 mg of sodium in a quarter tsp, while the Mortons Salt on my shelf has 590 mg per quarter tsp. I always thought it was the larger crystals which took up space, making the measured spoon of sea salt "lower" in Sodium, but with this salt being as fine or finer than the Mortons, and it being quite a bit lower, I have to believe the sodium is lower because of other minerals. Good for me since I am so sodium sensitive. Guest guest
My primary reason for choosing sea salt over table salt, is that table salt contains "anti caking agents" that are full of chemicals, and also full of wheat and corn starch-often an unknown issue for those with food allergies. Some companies do label the anti caking agents in the ingredients, but others don't, nor are they required to by the FDA. ._,___

In the Water Cure books (which I highly recommend you get at least one of them because there is so much more to it than just increasing your water intake and you really should read the book or at minimum study the Water Cure website) they recommend drinking your water between meals so that you don't dilute your digestive juices which should be concentrated in order to digest the food of a meal. I suggest that you get some good sea salt, a mason jar, and some good water. Fill the mason jar with as much water as you think you can take and drink it first thing when you wake up. Wait at least an hour after breakfast and do it again. At least a half hour before lunch do it again, and half an hour before dinner do it again.
