Dr Grim

Thank you for the name at UCLA.

As far as drugs go - when I had the platelet count of 87 I was taking

25mg Captopril X3 daily and 25mg Spironolactone X2 daily (I had only

been taking Spironolactone for 2 weeks at that point) and 10meq

Potassium.

The nephrologist I saw took me off the Captopril and I am now taking

Atacand 32mg X1 daily and increased the Spironolatone to 50mg X2

daily and the Potassium to 10meq X2. When I remember I take a multi-

vitamin tablet.

We have been pretty much following the DASH diet for the last 4.5

years when our first son started solid food. He still doesn't know

what the inside of Macs looks like! I am 6'0.5 " , I weighed

about 147lbs at the beginning of the year and am now about 135lbs.

I have a 17 month old who I had to finish weaning so that I could

start taking the Spironolactone.

I was found to have high blood pressure when I went to a Dr with an

eye infection in March. He put me on Hydrochlorathiacide, but was

very unpleasant to me and so I went elsewhere a week or so later to

Dr M. She ordered blood tests, took me off the diuretic and put me

on Captopril - 25mg X2 daily. My K came back at 2.7, she told me to

eat bananas and oranges and re-do the test which came back at 2.9.

She put me on Potassium supplement 10meq X1 daily for a week = 3.0.

Take 2 a day =2.9. Four a day for 3 days =3.0. 'Well maybe yuou

just have low potassium we'll re-do the test in a month or so'.

Change of Dr again! Dr S ordered blood tests for Aldosterone and

Renin and a CAT scan and chest x-ray the first time I saw her. She

increased the Capropril to 25mg X3 daily and the K supplement to X4

daily. The K level went to 3.3, 3.5(Dr reduced supplements to X1),

3.6, 3.7 (last 4 weeks results)

The Aldosterone level was 48 and the ratio to Renin was 880:1.

The CAT scan found a 1.5 cm tumour on the left adrenal.

Now we're looking for a surgeon.
