What exactly is it for and do I need one if I have a VM? From what I can gather

it seems very similar to a blender except maybe it has the capability to dice

stuff into bigger pieces.

I think my salad shooter is 20 years old now! Getting fragile but I still use it

to grate carrots. Don't think it would handle cheese at its advanced age. Lol

This is crazy of me - I haven't made ice cream yet. What do you do with what doesn't get eaten (as in leftovers?). Doesn't it freeze into something too hard to scoop and eat? It's not like you can make a single serving, right? Sorry for the unenlightened questions - but this is what is holding me back (that, and what do I do if I start making and eating the ice cream and can't stop? lol)FrannyOn Mar 28, 2011, at 8:09 AM, Berry wrote:

I sold my ice cream makers (had several, wasn't fond of any) on Craigslist, and use just the Vitamix, which I think makes PERFECT ice cream. My favorite is pumpkin or butternut squash as a base, sweetened with a little agave and pumpkin pie spice. Been making it for years and years, and still marvel at how much better it works in my new Vitamix as opposed to my old stainless VM. I "thought" IT was doing a great job of it, had no idea how much better it would be with the new Vitamix!

Ice cream IS best if eaten straight from the VM, but I freeze any leftovers either into popsicles or small individual serving glass mason jars. When I want some in a jar, I just set the jar out about 20 minutes before I want to eat it, so it softens up a bit. I prefer to freeze the exact ingredients I want in ice cream into individual cubes, so when I want some, I just toss some frozen cubes in the VM with a splash or rice or almond milk and buzz up an individual serving. NO WORRIES about eating to much, since DELICIOUS but HEALTHY ice cream can be made. Mine is pumpkin or squash based as a rule, with just a hint of agave, or fresh fruit as the sweetener, so no problem eating gobs of it! I munch on popsicles or ice cream all day-with no guilt, since it is HEALTHY ice cream! (who is nibbling on a totally

healthy, but totally yummy fudge pop at this very moment, despite the fact that it is cold and ugly weather today-yum)!

It would work perfectly fine with canned pumpkin, or butternut squash. Trust me, I have NOTHING against canned goods and would totally use them if I could! I grow sugar pumpkins, long island pie pumpkins, mini jacks, baby boo's, and some REALLY cool snow white globe pumpkins-they are the whitest, ghostliest things you have ever seen! Very fun to grow, and YEP, I grow most of them upside down. I do grow some massive ones up my hill in season, but I love the mini's-super easy to work with. I can throw 5 or 6 of them in my solar oven to roast whole. Give them a try in a container-good fun!

Yes, it is the All American, the 30 qt. Bought it on Amazon as they offer free

shipping to Alaska. Most places do not and shipping here can be VERY expensive.

Last check says it is scheduled for delivery tomorrow to my post office. We have

to go into town tomorrow so will not be able to check until Friday. Town is and

hour and half each way not including whatever time needed for what we went to

town for. So unlikely the counter at the post office will still be open when we

get home.

In most cases pressure cookers cannot be used as canners. Canners can be used as

cookers, but have never heard of a cooker that could be used as a canner. All

the research I have done before deciding to buy says that is a no, no. Would

love to know more about yours.

When I got my Vitamix (Can't even remember how long it has been now, though I

think it was only about 5 years ago) they did not have the smaller containers. I

bought the dry container at the same time. There was a demonstration at our

state fair. There was supposed to be a book with it about grains or bread or

something like that. (I know it was a brown cover. lol) When I got it home and

opened everything there was no book. Of course the fair was pretty much over by

the time I got it home since we had our own booth there and were pretty busy the

whole time.

I love mine, though have not used it as much as I wanted to since we don't have

electric right now. May try to get it put in this year. That will help, and the

getting our garden up and going here. Had a big one at our last place, but have

to start completely from scratch here.
