Guest guest
What exactly is it for and do I need one if I have a VM? From what I can gather it seems very similar to a blender except maybe it has the capability to dice stuff into bigger pieces.

Guest guest
And that is why I went back to using my box graters. Son bought me a nifty Microplane box grater for Christmas and it works fine for the amounts we need. I use store bought cheese and found the store block cheese when grated was so much better than bagged pre-grated cheese so that is what we do. Guest guest
Oh, Microplane products ROCK. I have a zester--unbelievable: http://us.microplane.com/40001zester.aspx . I can leave the plastic guard on while I zest and then just slide it off and empty it. At some point, I might go for this: http://us.microplane.com/38000set-5gratersetwattachment.aspx but it's not essential. Guest guest
We too have one of those $300 ice cream makers (has a built in compressor which freezes the mix), but it makes such a small batch, we have to be really motivated to dig it out and use it. Myself, now I prefer VM ice cream. Velda On 3/27/2011 6:36 AM, Terry Pogue wrote: > I'm one of those who has lots of kitchen tool/devices. I use them all. Guest guest
Yay, Hubby!!! Give that man a hug from us all. lol Mine did the same thing recently. Have been wanting my canner (most expensive brand out there and next to the most expensive one they carry. lol) for awhile now. Showed it to him on Amazon with free shipping (which is rare to Alaska) and he said that's a good price and you been wanting one so order it today. It shows scheduled for delivery the 31st. Coming earlier than it originally said. Can't wait!!! Guest guest
I sold my ice cream makers (had several, wasn't fond of any) on Craigslist, and use just the Vitamix, which I think makes PERFECT ice cream. My favorite is pumpkin or butternut squash as a base, sweetened with a little agave and pumpkin pie spice. Been making it for years and years, and still marvel at how much better it works in my new Vitamix as opposed to my old stainless VM. I "thought" IT was doing a great job of it, had no idea how much better it would be with the new Vitamix! > >> I have my eye on something else for grating and slicing (despite owning >> a food processor with every blade known to man). Guest guest
Did you get the canner that does not use a gasket, American something I think it is called? I have a Italian pressure cooker that can be used as a canner, but I am a bit hesitant on using it for certain items due to the fact that there is no way to measure the pressure, you just have to go by what it says it does. Yes, hubby is good to me, most of the time. LOL LIke the new VM. He saw it on Costco website and it had a nice stainless steel pan with it as a giftie and 3 containers (one large and the smaller wet and dry) and he just pops up and says, this lookes nicer and is quieter than our old one, do you want me to order it? Took me less than a breath to say yes (old one is a 1977 model and still works). Velda On 3/28/2011 1:14 AM, kjtbeskimo wrote: > Yay, Hubby!!! Guest guest
I need to try making the pumpkin, but I suppose it would not be as good made with canned pumpkin, since I have not grown my own! Which pumpkins grow in containers? I can get butternut squash at the store, might try steaming some of that to try. I like my new VM better too. Mel loves yogurt and frozen fruit "ice cream". This one makes it better than the SS VM. AND it's so much easier to get out than with the straight sided SS. Guest guest
Please accept apology in advance, but in our house there is NEVER any leftover, whether two or three of us tackle it, it is always gone! We love the stuff. So I can't help you on whether it would get too hard or not. Velda On 3/28/2011 6:44 AM, Franny Lesniak wrote: This is crazy of me - I haven't made ice cream yet. What do you do with what doesn't get eaten (as in leftovers?). Doesn't it freeze into something too hard to scoop and eat? It's not like you can make a single serving, right? Guest guest
Fudge Pop? Ingredients done in the VM? DO tell! I love chocolate. Velda On 3/28/2011 7:10 AM, Berry wrote: Ice cream IS best if eaten straight from the VM, but I freeze any leftovers either into popsicles or small individual serving glass mason jars. When I want some in a jar, I just set the jar out about 20 minutes before I want to eat it, so it softens up a bit. I prefer to freeze the exact ingredients I want in ice cream into individual cubes, so when I want some, I just toss some frozen cubes in the VM with a splash or rice or almond milk and buzz up an individual serving. NO WORRIES about eating to much, since DELICIOUS but HEALTHY ice cream can be made. Mine is pumpkin or squash based as a rule, with just a hint of agave, or fresh fruit as the sweetener, so no problem eating gobs of it! I munch on popsicles or ice cream all day-with no guilt, since it is HEALTHY ice cream! (who is nibbling on a totally healthy, but totally yummy fudge pop at this very moment, despite the fact that it is cold and ugly weather today-yum)! > >> I have my eye on something else for grating and slicing (despite owning >> a food processor with every blade known to man). Guest guest
Several easy ways to make a fudge pop! I make homemade chocolate, so I sometimes just melt a little of that and add raw cow's milk, goat milk, or rice or nut milk to it, a little agave, blend and freeze. You can also make it with raw cocoa powder, agave and milk of choice-is yummy either way. Also quite lovely with a sprig of fresh mint thrown in-tastes like thin mints! Or raspberries. Or apricot jam. Or orange zest. Or..., well, you get the picture! > >> I have my eye on something else for grating and slicing (despite owning >> a food processor with every blade known to man).
