Guest guest
I have found several places I can order them, however I have directions to make one very simply and since I already have everything I need for it I am just going to make my own. The wooden versions are very simple to make. Hubby cut the 2X10's for me yesterday. Now I just have to gather my nuts, bolts and a few small pieces of wood as well as a piece for the handle and it will be ready in no time. Guest guest
There is also an electric gadget that presses your tortilla and cooks it all at the same time. I sold mine, since I don't make tortillas any more any way (corn allergy), but it worked quite well. It didn't do well with gluten free type tortillas, so I saw no need to keep it, but it is worthwhile gadget for those who eat a lot of them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ChefPro-8-ELECTRIC-ROTI-TORTILLA-FLATBREAD-MAKER-110V-/270708093578?pt=Small_Kitchen_Appliances_US & hash=item3f0775b28a--- On Sat, 3/26/11, Terry Pogue <tpogue@...> wrote:From: Terry Pogue <tpogue@...>Subject: Re: Re: New Toy on its way! Guest guest
The trouble I have making corn tortillas is getting the thickness uniform. It will come out to thin on time and too thick the next. Then If I get the ball of dough in the slightly wrong spot it might be thick on one edge and thin on the other. In other words my technique has not been perfected, to say the least. I need to just tackle this! Make up the masa and make them over and over until I get it right. Determination is what I need. <g>Sent from my iPadOn Mar 27, 2011, at 9:28 AM, Berry <berrywell@...> wrote: There is also an electric gadget that presses your tortilla and cooks it all at the same time. Guest guest
We don't have full time electric so manual gadgets are much better for me than having to crank up a generator or wait till we have it running to charge batteries or something before I can make things. I have that problem now with my VitaMix. And our smaller more economical generator is not strong enough to run it. So have to drag out the big one we use for our well pump when we get water to use the Vitamix. lol Building the tortilla maker there are many plans and videos online for them. Here are some links for them. http://www.bread-bakers.com/tortilla-press.html http://curbly.com/chrisjob/posts/1013-diy-tortilla-press http://www.ehow.com/how_4968249_make-wood-tortilla-press.html http://littlehousecollective.wordpress.com/2009/04/30/making-a-tortilla-press/ If you have someone else cut the wood for you it is even easier. lol Vickey in Alaska > > I have found several places I can order them, however I have directions to > make one very simply and since I already have everything I need for it I am > just going to make my own.
