Has your weight gone up or down? Here is the medication I am currently taking: ________ Morning: ________ Inspra (eplernone) 25 mg [replaced Midamor (amiloride hydrochloride) 5 mg with Inspra 25 mg on January 3, 2004] Norvasc (amlodipine besylate) 5 mg Vitamin C 500 mg Vitamin E 400 iu Multivitamin ________ Evening: ________ Cardura (doxazosin mesylate) 1 mg Celexa (citalopram HBr) 10 mg [increased from 5 mg to 10 mg on January 2, 2004] Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) 10 mg Vitamin C 500 mg My test results as of November 4, 2003 when I was on the Midimor were: Potassium 3.9 mmol/l Renin 0.25 ng/ml/hr Aldosterone 18 ng/dl Triglycerides 167 Cholesterol 149 HDL Cholesterol 31 LDL Cholesterol 85 CHOL/HDL Ratio 4.8 As you can see I doubled my Celexa (still a small dose 5 mg to 10 mg) a day before starting the Inspra. I do not know if I should continue the Inspra or if I should go back to the Midamor. It is difficult to ascertain when you change 2 medications at the same time. I am sure INSPRA is causing the metalic taste. I suggest you try Inspra as a test to see how it feels. I would be curious to hear feedback from others who try Inspra, but of course we are all different with different problems. I am not sleeping well. I have been on Inspra since mid-December, and have not noticed any significant side affects. I had metallic taste before starting Inspra, and I know as Dr Grimm has indicated that this is due to the potassium imbalance. The only other " side affects " I've noticed are somewhat opposite yours - less urination, less thirst, less fatigued - which I think is the goal of the drug. I've not had blood tests yet, I was supposed to get one this week and the doc has not called me in for it yet. When I do I'll let you know if Inspra has changed anything. Something I experienced with spiro (when that was the only change for a long while) was a tendency to tiredness or depression unless I got plenty of exercise.
