Guest guest
Hope everyone had a good holiday. I wanted to update everyone on how the IEP meeting went after I found out they were spraying Hannah in the face with water to get her to follow directions. After taking the advice of many on this list, I contacted the superintendant, easter seals, disability coalition, the ark dept of education, and CIRCUIT (an advocacy program). I had an advocate at the meeting which lasted 4 hours. It was a tad heated to start and I had to work at keeping my emotions in check. I let them know in no uncertian terms that I did not trust the teacher, that they were mistreating her and abusing her and I would not allow it. Easter Seals is sending someone in to train the staff. We developed a behavior plan that included a push cart for Hannah to push from place to place and in class, (and low and behold, no more pushing of the wheelchairs and no more trouble staying on task getting from class to class). We have a communication notebook and a sped teacher that is seemingly doing all the right things to correct her offenses. I did tell the committee that I felt that it was as much their fault as the teachers for not knowing what she was doing and for not training her to know this was wrong....although to me common sense tells you this face spraying is wrong. Anyway, we have been back in school a week and things seem to be going much smoother. I would like to think all our problems are over...but we all know how that is. Thanks again for all the help and support. Tammy mom to Hannah
Guest guest
I am glad to hear it Tamy. This had me heated for a few days. I am interested in what they had to say about their behavior and lack of supervision on the Principals part and what if any, the district had to say. I hope you said something about spraying their kids in the face or something like that I am also curious as to why THEY were so heated.
