Guest guest
I recall a story Sue told us years ago from when her eldest daughter didn't believe in Santa anymore so she nearly ruined her white carpet with boot prints This year we have my dad here. All of our family live in Sydney, New South Wales- we moved to Adelaide, South Australia about 4 1/2 years ago- so we have started our own traditions. This year my dh bought me a 6foot xmas tree that we can all put up- we usually just unwrap pressies xmas day and then eat and play all day. I prefer a cold lunch as it can get very hot here in Oz so tempers can flair, and you feel bad if the kids don't eat all the food. We usually have pancakes for breaky. then a cold meat, cheese and fruit platter for lunch. Dinner is leftovers. Natasha wants to go to Sydney next year- so we have the money tins already and the kids have started saving to go. In Sydney we would congregate at my MIL for Xmas eve for drinks and pressie swapping- we would put all the pressies on her bed, and at the end of the night take home your family bundle. Then xmas morning we would open pressies at home. Then Xmas lunch was with my family.Usually a combo of hot chicken and cold salads and fruit and lollies! When my uncle was alive he was renowed for telling the corny jokes! Go home for a tad, then xmas night was pot luck at my SIL (dh has 3 sisters and 2 step sisters and 1 brother) house - who had a pool- everyone brought 1 pot/plate of leftovers-and she would always buy prawns and we would cook garlic prawns on the bbq. Boxing day, or sometime the day after boxing day we would have a huge family picnic with my in laws family- my MIL and her sister, sometimes their brother too (my MIL has 2 sisters and 1 brother) and all the kids and grandkids etc - we would spend the day playing. So Xmas used to be busy - but now it isnt I do miss it tho- and I thought it was good as we did the same thing each year- my MIL said she learnt early on there are 2 or more families for xmas , so she had set things that we could come to , but not obligated to attend as it took the stress away and left us to see the other families too. Hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous 2007- thanks for all the advice and jokes and support from the list- I have popped up the Xmas pic of the kids from last week- The boys look the same, just bigger- but Natasha has grown up so much this past year. She is 5 in just under 50 sleeps ( yes she is counting down! She is getting her ears pierced for her birthday) -- Aussie Leis- mum to 9 , Natasha 4.5 and 3!!! You have to think anyway, so why not think BIG? Trump
